No sure if I can do this on this board, but what the heck, I'm doing it anyway. So, a few days ago I thought up an idea for a really really super-de-duperdy jawexome, pwnsome, and rawksome forum game. However, to have it work, I need to know if there are a goodly amount of people here who can create their own music. It doesn't have to be you actually playing instruments or anything, though it can be. if you want, it can just be using some app like GarageBand (or a similar app) to create it artificially. Again, my bad if this doesn't belong here. I just want to get the right crowd. |

I don't wanna brag, but I gots tons of instrumental skills. I'm a drummer/pianoist/half guitarist (by that it means my skills as a guitarist is half that of a decent guitarist). It's the recording part. If you've heard any of our recordings, you would say that my band sucks. But I don't think we would sound so bad live. |

Well, you're gonna need to be able to record well for this, because that will be required for the forum game. Also, you'll probably need to know more instruments than that for the game, because it'll likely incorporate a very wide array of instruments. Now, I'm not saying that you should go out and buy a crapload of instruments. I'm just saying that it would be good to use some app (as I've said, GarageBand is a great example) that has pre-recorded samples of several different instruments so that you can create it artificially (or a mix of "real" music and artificial music). Actually...come to think of it, maybe you won't have to be able to do all that stuff. I just thought up an idea for that forum game that could solve that. I'll see if I can remember to point that idea out as this one that I just thought of once I make the forum game. |

I can't use garageband. I'm not a Mac user. But my friend has a Mac. That's how we record, with garageband. We record our guitar first, then the drums, then the bass, and then the vocals (which suck). |

Music is one of my talents. I've made some pretty cool stuff with Midi Maker, and I wrote a couple songs this summer with my guitar (Though my sister wrote the lyrics for one of them, and the other doesn't have lyrics yet) I have a great ear, it makes up for my bad eyesight. |

No offense, but this "artifical music" thing sounds silly. For example, many musicians (me including) play parts via MIDI to a sequencer/host program and afterwards edit (quantize) missed notes, errors etc. (Some people quantize to make things sound more human by leaving notes that are just slightly off while others want precise notes). Is that artificial? After all, if I play a melody on my keyboard, that is recording. Nevertheless, I don't want to sound like a complete spoil sport. I really like the idea of this thread! It's like a "Post your sketches" thread - with music.
It seems like this would fit better into the Art & Crafts section, though. We could make it more game-like if there were, like, certain themes to follow or you'd have to describe a color, a feeling or a word via music etc. It could be very inspiring! |

No, no no, you misunderstood me. This thread is NOT the forum game! I haven't even said what the forum game will be, just that it will require music skill. I'll explain all the rules once I actually start the thread. Believe me, it's different than what you think. |

Question! Can I get my band into this game? If we are supposed to make songs, it would do wonders for our producing songs. And then when we make and album we can send it to you and thank you. |

Well, I guess. But the game isn't just "Make a buncha songs". But I guess it would be interesting. Actually, I think I'll start making the forum game now.
