I'm nervous. My babysitting job starts tomorrow, but I have very little idea how well I'll do. I may oversleep. I may do a poor job babysitting. I'm not good with children. Heck, the only reason I agreed to this was the $20 I'd get every time I do.

Somebody give me some advice plz kthxbai

I was a pro. babysitter back in the day.
What're the ages of the kids?
Are you babysitting at their house or yours?
Do you know where the first aid kit is?
Do you have a relationship with these kids/the parents?
Did they give you their kids' schedule? eating/sleeping/etc...
How long is it for? 2 hours? 4 hours?

Ive met an incredible person in this world that has showed me the closest thing to this love and if only continue to be patient this person will expierience the Love that one has for another. No one deserves to come to a point where giving up on love is an option. I think that if a person is willing to sacrifice so much time and effort on the person he or she loves that it is love. No effort does not define wat love should be. I might speak in riddles but this person knows who he is. The virtue of patience always ties toether with Love. If the work for patience is achieved then it is what we call love to be.
This has made me mad. My friend said this, a friend who I've done exactly as this paragraph says towards, and I got no recognition for it. Now, as I believe, someone else has come along and done the same thing, and now he gets recognition. I don't know whether this is about me, and I doubt it, but none the less, I assume the worst, and I am mad.

Are you babysitting at their house or yours? Their house. My mom is being a jerk about it.
Do you know where the first aid kit is? No.
Do you have a relationship with these kids/the parents? The person I'm caring for is the daughter of my half sister's friend.
Did they give you their kids' schedule? eating/sleeping/etc... Not yet.
How long is it for? 2 hours? 4 hours? 5 hours (7:30 AM to 12:30 PM)

What're the ages of the kids? One kid, 6 years old. Sweet. Easy-peasy.
Do you know where the first aid kit is? No. That's one of the first things to ask when you get there, especially for a 6 year old.
Did they give you their kids' schedule? eating/sleeping/etc... Not yet. Learn this after finding out where the first aid stuff is. If they don't have anything -- RUN FOR IT. RUN FOR THE HILLS! ... er. *cough*
How long is it for? 2 hours? 4 hours? 5 hours (7:30 AM to 12:30 PM) Sounds good. You'll need her bedtime, then. Also find out anything she needs before going to bed. Such as a bedtime story, glass of warm milk, a special stuffed animal, etc... 6 year olds are pretty mature nowadays, but she still might have a habit and you don't want to be the one to break it.

She should've eaten dinner by then, so not much worries about food, besides drinks. You should ask about how much TV/Movies/internet she's allowed to view from the parents. And what channels/movies/websites are OK. If she's allowed to have a snack before bed, make sure you know if she has any allergies or things she's not supposed to eat.

Also, if she does something extremely bad (since she's 6, she probably won't), I'd recommend sending her to her room until her parents come home and let them know what happened. No physical or mental punishment such as spanking or sending to a corner. That's not your job.

Sounds like a good deal. Your mom may get more comfortable with it if you're doing it on a regular basis, but otherwise it seems pretty good. At least there's some relative-connection anyway, as opposed to babysitting from want-ads.

That's all my advice. Good luck. :)

JKLjkgds.. D'OH. I MISSED THAT. I just ASSUME that all babysitting takes place at night.

Well then, in that case. Food IS important, but not sleepytimes. :) Everything else still applies.

My job makes me want to destroy the world.

First off, believe it or not, bureaucracy can serve a good, useful purpose.
Most of the time, though, it only exists for bureaucracy's sake.

Today, I experienced the latter form.

It took me ALL day to draft a letter. OK, so it only actually took me about 20 minutes to draft the letter, it took me the rest of the day to get it into "the correct format".

The indent was one space too far (even though I used a tab), there was one extra character return below the inside address, it needed another one above the address line... It just keeps going on and on and on.

To make matters worse, they were only finding one problem at a time (instead of pointing out everything, or almost everything, the first time they looked at it), then they kept belittling me for "trying to be creative instead of following our style manual and the example" they gave me.

2 problems: 1) I did not have this style manual. Any time I asked for it, I was told "It's on the y: drive". To realize how absurd that statement is, you must understand that our entire division (including 9 field offices) use this network drive and it is one of the least organized drives ever (sometimes it takes 20 minutes to find things that YOU put on there), and nobody seemed able to have a guide they could email me.
2) I DID follow the example letter they gave me (and it was wrong, per their precious style guide).

Eventually, I got it all worked out. It took all day and the finished product (printed about 4:25) looked almost identical to the first product I printed out at 8:30 this morning. If one were to measure with a ruler, they'd be able to barely discern a difference, but the casual viewer (and the recipient) wouldn't know they two were different.

Go above their heads and deliver/e-mail it yourself next time. Bureaucracy is about filing and proccessing numbers and forms that every one needs filed in order to run their daily lives, but instead of being a mindless drone when doing it, TAKE ACTION! FREE THE BEAST! Knock someone out with your hole puncher, kick in someones teeth with a coffee mug-foot-ware, and be the best damn bureaucrat you can be! If they can't handle it, you're in for elsewhere!

Believe me when I say this: I thought about doing something like this, I really did.

However, I value my job (well, ok, I value the pittance of a paycheck they give me), and I value my not-in-jailness.

The person that signed the letter (our director) thought I was joking when I told him everything I'd gone through. His response: "They're not going to look at that letter. All they care about is the revision package we're sending them. We told them we'd have it in their hands by the end of February. The letter could be nothing but a long string of swears and they'd never know... By the way, don't do the swears thing."

I feel alright. I just went on a complete shopping binge (£26 goes a long way) and i bought:
3 pairs of leg warmers, 1 necklace, 1 dress, 1 bag, 1 belt and probably some other stuff.
I'm in love with my new legwarmers though. They're AMAZING, like these but grey and black (and very warm.)
Amazing. AMAZING I tell you.
Prom tomorrow!
