I hate people that use it as an excuse also, but those are the people. And people should make fun of them, because they usually deserve it.

You appear to do it very well.

If it hadn't been for the "who has some sort of disorder" type threads, I wouldn't have ever known.

I wouldn't've guessed with Clan, either. I still think he just suffers from Beingatotaljerkitis.

I'd just call him a jerk. Then again, maybe he was possessed by Phil Argus.

I've looked at some of the stuff Clan said, and I've only ever seen people who say they have Asperger's Syndrome act like that. There was this one guy I knew on another forum who acted a lot like Clan, although a lot less aggressive.

Currently I'm not diagnosed with anything

but...

we have over the recent years discovered that my dear mother most probably has ADD, as evidenced by many certain circumstances and research. With this in light, I've been more and more aware of my own thought patterns (organized or otherwise) and have been increasingly more suspicious of myself over the past two years as I've had some introspective time that I might be slightly bent that way. But you know what? Matters not, I've lived just fine so far, I'm not going to tack anything onto myself :p

No, he was possessed by Joel Dawson.

Exactly. Unless you talk about Phil Argus and food.

"Is that a pie?"
"Is that a pizza?"
"A brick covered in chocolate?!"
"CARS ARE FOOD?!"

My friend was diagnosed with dyslexia, and it's hardly severe or anything, but he uses it as an excuse for everything at school for fun.

I agree with those above, some mental problems are diagnosed way too often. My cousin, for instance, always had way to much energy and couldn't stay still in school. He was diagnosed with ADHD and the school threatened to kick him out if his parents didn't control it (aka, put him on the pill). Instead, his parents signed him up for gymnastics - he loves it, and It used up all his energy so he didn't need to act out in school. Now, in his age group, he's the best in New England (I'm pretty sure)

Things like that might not work for everyone, but it just shows that doctors are way to quick to get kids drugged up these days. In many cases, here are other, much better ways to deal with things like ADHD.

My name is Self-Operating Mechanical Man: Prototype.
Most of you know me as SOMM-1 or Sommy.
I have Asperger's Syndrome and ADHD, both professionally diagnosed. I am not on medication.

*audience applauds for some reason*

A lot of people here have Asperger's Syndrome, I have Autism which is similar but causes delay in non-social aspects of intellectual development (yep, I copied the sentence, from Wikipedia).

If I ever went to a psychologist, they'd probably find I have more than two problems. And probably not what I've been self-diagnosing myself with the whole time (which changes from year to year so I stopped doing that).

Things I've THOUGHT I had over the past decade (in chronological order):
Paranoid schizophrenia with messianic delusions
OCD
AD(H)D
Aspergers
Manic Depression

Now I think it's more likely that I'm just really bored.

That was an excellent example Ju Ju. I applaude (sp?) you.

What I find odd is that I see and hear about it all over the states but up here in canada I rarely see or hear about it. Is this just because of the large population difference or are doctors in the states more corrupt then canadian doctors?

Half of my conversations both on IM and in real life wind up being about that RPG I'm still working on. Does anyone else here with Asperger's Syndrome have a tendency to quote, reference, or make small talk about obsessions regularly even if no one else seems to be very interested?

I don't, but let me tell you from talking with my friends that do, yes, they can have that tendancy :p

I'm going to assume that it was some sort of 'They Might Be Giants' reference with the intention of getting Mandy started.

I think it's a Bonus Stage reference, and I get the quoting thing too. Fortunately, my obsession is Homestar Runner, so it doesn't show up too much here. But when I'm on a wiki, I quote Homestar Runner in the edit summaries all the time.

I have been diagnosed as clinically depressed and I am SO SICK of people going around claiming to be depressed and cutting themselves and then calling us actually depressed people posers and fakers and 'wemos' (wannabe emos) when we're on medication for it and their 'medication' is little cuts along their wrists and an addiction to Fall Out Boy. It's entirely annoying. Being depressed does not involve wearing skinny jeans and ski caps with little button pins all over them. That's a stupid stereotype that everyone seems to like to claim to be. People with actual mental illnesses are treated as outcasts while people who actually have them are called cruel names ('retarded', 'braindead', and 'emo' are a few of them). Why? Because people don't know what to say. Saying 'I'm emo' is so much easier than saying 'My doctor diagnosed me as clinically depressed and is considering putting me on Lithium'. Which is why I prefer to say the latter.
