I like ska, folk punk, punk, indie/indie pop/rock. Stuff like Streetlight Manifesto; The Mad Caddies; Five Iron Frenzy; Defiance, Ohio; Bomb the Music Industry!; Atom and His Package; The New Pornographers and Sufjan Stevens. Bomb the Music Industry! (synth ska/punk) and Defiance, Ohio (folk punk) put all of their music up for free. It wouldn't hurt to check either of them out. =P |

I like metal, but I dislike those people who claim to love metal, when you see that they only listen to extreme emo/ screamo. All metal isn't swearing, bleeding, and yelling! |

So, I can basically get into anything as long as it's good. Granted, there are more bad things in some genres than there are in others, but there's good stuff everywhere. However, I have some favorite genres. I'll update my genre and band list: Genres: Ska Punk 80's Synth Pop Alternative (although that's hard to specify, because a lot of alternative out right now isn't really alternative. Alternative is the new rock, in that it is all encompassing and is not specific. Anymore.) Electronica (especially mixed with different music such as Orchestral or Opera. Really cool, if it's done right.) Jazz Reggae Hair Metal Glam Rock Bands: Bare Naked Ladies The Beatles Cake David Bowie Duran Duran Eminem (sorry, Fov. But he's talented. Hip Hop is a genre that had a lot of potential, because of its simplicity. However, it was warped into a horrible tool for untalented people to produce really bad music. Eminem is one of the few rap artists that I respect.) Frank Black Frank Black and the Catholics Gorillaz The Gurren Lagann soundtrack (not a band, but it's amazingly done and I wanted to put it here because I love it so much.) Howard Jones Jonathan Coulton Jerry Markham Lemon Demon The Pixies The Police Red Hot Chili Peppers Reel Big Fish The Replacements Rush Soul Coughing Streetlight Manifesto The Skank Agents They Might Be Giants Weird Al Yankovic I'd also like to mention Ska Skank Radio, which has a lot of independent artists that I can't name, but it's really good. |

It kind of bugs me that people refer to some really mainstream music as being "alternative". For example, my iTunes is convinced that Blink-182 is alternative, when they're actually quite mainstream. Same with a lot of other stuff on there. |
