A pretty interesting question. Obviously, it's bound to change over time, but what names have you thought of for offspring you might potentially have in the future?

I'm thinking Calvin for a boy (middle name Hobbes or Andhobbes) and Janeway for a girl. What about all of you?

Rya Ondine for a girl.

John Linnell for a boy.

I also rather like Megan September. For a girl, obviously. And I always liked the name Silas for a boy.

All names said so far are fail.

Having said that, I have not yet thought of any names of my own.

Your children will be made fun of incesantly.

"Hey John, why don't you go write a popular 80's college radio song that will be idolized by nerds in years to COME!"

Anyway, my kids names would be (for a girl) Amy or Elise, and for a boy, uh...Tom.

Tom, you say?

I've had Grace (for a girl) and Kyle (boy) stuck in my head for a while.

Geeks, you mean. :P

Besides, as for his middle name...no one will ever need to know.

Boy - Jake, Dylan, or Phil. Or mebbe WOLFGANG

Girl - Ashley, Jennifer...um...Kristin? I dunno, I'll let my wife/girlfriend pick.

I definitely won't do the thing that a lot of internet people do and say they're going to name their children after some obscure webtoon/band/cartoon. I also won't be giving them weird names to try and make them "unique". The name does not determine if the child is unique or not, it's the child that does that.

My name, "Shane", is as uncommon as I would go.

Listen to the man. Better yet, give him a medal.

Well, no. If you have one person named Earthwind in a sea of people named Michael, then they are unique. But, if he acts exactly the same as all the Michaels, and his name is the only thing that makes him unique, then it doesn't really matter because it's not as important as being unique in the way you act. I think that's sorta what you were getting at.

Still, I fail to see how having a unique name is a bad thing.

Because when it comes to names, "unique" is code for "retarded."

I <3 you, too. :)

Ironically, the real life person I'm totally crushing with is named Dave.

That, and those two names are wicked awesome.

So you think naming a kid "Earthwind" is a good idea? Then I forsee your kids getting beat up regularly at school.

I wouldn't name my kids something too commonplace (ie not Mike), but I wouldn't go too far out there (ie not any name celebrities give their kids). That's why I think something like Jake or Dylan is a good idea. A little bit of uniqueness, but not overbearing.

Well, you don't have to name him/her Earthwind. Ian's not a common name at all, for example.

Is Ian "overbearing" or "too far out there"?

Sometimes, yes. But not as much as I think you think it does.

Acekirby wrote:

No, no, no, I was just using that as an example of a really different and out-there name. I actually think that's a really stupid name. I thought of it because a while back there was a player on the Titans named Earthwind Mooreland because his mom really liked Earth, Wind, and Fire.

Ian, you missed my point, I was clarifying what I said. You seem to think that I think any name not Michael or any name that not a lot of people have is terrible. Ian is uncommon, as is Shane, but it's not too far out there. Something like Rya Ondine or Janeway is.

Ian sounds like a fairly normal name to me. I know two people by that name.

Yeah, but it's still cool nonetheless. Never really hear it that often in school. Like my name! Next year, I'll likely be the only one with this name! :D

Despite what I said earlier, this is a name I would accept wholeheartedly.

Seems to be pretty common on this forum. :)
Anyways, for a boy, I'd go with Edward or Neil (middle name would be Page). For a girl, I'd say Kim or something else normal/semi-generic.

I can't think of anything original. These are the names of my nuclear family.
