I couldn't find anything like this with a couple searches...so if there is something for this already, sorry.
So, in the future, I want to major in vocal arts. Obviously, my biggest dream is to go to Juilliard, but that's pretty unlikely. Other places I have have my eye on are Oberlin, and Puget Sound.
The only way I could be swayed away from majoring in music is my dad. He doesn't believe a degree in vocal arts will be good for anything, and thinks of it as just a waste of time. If he does force me to reconsider my major, I'd be most interested in architecture, and I'd want to go to Rice.

I attend Grove City College where as of right now I am a Comp Sci major (as opposed to my last go at Electrical Engineering, which turned out not to be my thing at all).

I'm hoping to use this to learn the right things that may eventually get me into things such as software engineering, maybe video gaming, but my ultimate dream would be to work at Pixar, which is a possibility if I keep up on a lot of things.

I know I'm probably too young to think about it, but I'm interested in journalism or sport studies. But, the schools I'm interested in will probably ruin that. I'm looking at St. Mary's College at California, SC, San Jose State, Sonoma State, and University of San Francisco (USF)

I'm a freshman theatre major at CU-Denver. Dunno what I'm going to minor in, if anything. I might take a bunch of random music, poetry and/or art classes.

I've friends at USF who seem to like it so far. What would you want to study?

Oh yeah, and I've taken a few gen-ed classes at J.Seargent Reynolds Community College, but now I'm at the Academy of Art University to study film. We've got the original reel to reel editing table that made Star Wars in our post-production lab, which is pretty tight. A gift from George Lucas himself, apparently.

I thinking about an eventual transfer to San Francisco Art Institute, California College of the Arts, or CalArts, though. I'd like a non-Hollywood-emphasized program, all of which those schools provide while still being awesome. The Academy is a really good school, but I don't wanna work in LA or New York, and their education best sets me up for that path.

I'm a junior at UVA. At UVA you can't say junior, though, you have to say "third year". Because everything has its dumb little other name just to be different. It's a good school though. The students are nice, but... of a different world than I care to be a part of.

Anyway, I'm there for linguistics. The program's focus is on anthropology, because those are the profs they have. I'd rather do historical linguistics, but they don't really have anyone that's into that. Oh well, it's still interesting. I'm gonna get a comp sci minor or possibly a second major in that.

Exactly. That's half the reason I'm going here. Other half being it was the only school in VA I knew of with a linguistics program. Apparently GMU has one according to that link you posted... but I'd rather die than move back to NoVA.

Oh goodness. NoVA isn't almost as bad as the Norfolk-VA Beach area. It's a different kind of gross. I'm a Richmond native turned ex-pat, by the way. I'm surprised that VCU doesn't have anything for linguistics. They have everything.

As it was written in there, I am interested in journalism or sports studies. [Sports studies being a legit field.]

Oh, sorry for skimming. Yeah, I think you're fine with either pursuit at USF. My only gripe with that school is that the student-life is waaaayyy too campus oriented, which is a shame since you're in one of the greatest cities ever. If you were to go there, don't waste your time around the buildings, and try to get out some. And hell, your student ID is a MUNI pass.

[s]Grr...[/s] oh, wait. At first I thought you were describing NoVA, but nevermind.

I do not have even a semi-solid idea on what college I'm going to and what I want to major/minor in. I've been thinking about something in the writing field for awhile, whether it's being an author, a journalist, or--well--anything writing-related, but I keep getting detracted by people who say that I won't accomplish and/or make anything money-worthy as a writer.

Yeah, that much I do know for myself.

AT NORTHERN VIRGINIA, COMMUNITY COLLEGE,
YOU CAN GET THE POW-ER, YOU CAN GET THE KNOW-LEDGE!

^ That used to be part of a song in their commercials, but I can't seem to find the link to the commercial anywhere.

Maybe you haven't gotten to that point of realization yet, but let me be the first to tell you that's a very bad idea.

My English Honors teacher talks to us a lot about college, as well as my Mass Media teacher.

I'm probably doing something in Arts, Visual, etc. I'm juggling a couple of things - either something in Fine and Studio Art, Illustration, or Film Production.

Also, there's a really useful list of Majors here:

The beauty of most arts schools is their awful, grueling foundations programs. You have to find your major after the first year, which is an exploration of all the majors at the school, so you'll find out what works for you. I knew a guy at who got into VCUarts to study pretty straight-forward graphic design, but ended up in "extended media," and is now doing some crazy conceptual video sculpture work.

A major thing to keep in mind is that your grades and stuff aren't nearly as important as your portfolio is. Spend a good, long time building up a strong portfolio, and you'll be set. Don't worry so much about taking AP classes and getting amazing SAT scores like collegeboard wants you to.

Jeez, guys, I was joking.

That's not my plan, but I was just trying to show how uncertain I am when it comes to college and my scholastic future in general.

Obviously it didn't work. Hooray!
