I'm nineteen, but I never got my road ready certificate in year ten that's required for a learner's permit. Considering my tendancy to drift off and take stupid risks, it's probably for the best that I don't have my licence.

(?) Road ready certificate? I never needed one of those, and I thought they didn't have them in Australia. What state are you from?

Anyway, I just got my Ps a week or two ago (which means I can drive without supervision). I've been going nuts driving everywhere.

I live in the ACT.

And from a quick Google, it looks like only the ACT requires it. Are you saying I could just move to Queanbeyan and get my Ls without having to pay a lot of money to take the test again? I did the test, I just missed a couple of lessons, which I guess is why I didn't get a certificate.

Well, where I live, you have to pay money and take a test on the computer at the RTA before you get your Ls. It's all road rules and mostly common sense.
There are no lessons or anything required beforehand, you just walk in, take the test, pass, and walk out with a learner's permit.

I think it's the same here if you miss getting your certificate in school, but I wouldn't know since I haven't done it, and year ten was a while ago.

I only drive at home because I have no car. So that's what, three months of the year? Tops.

And when I do, it gets to be in DC, one of the worst areas of traffic in the US! Schweet!

I could have had my license already, but I delayed getting my permit for like, 11 months. I'll get my license in August.

Wow this forum is even younger than I thought it was.

So far like only 3 people (including myself) that have posted can drive.

I'll be getting my permit in a few months, though. My parents are waiting until I turn 18.

I've been able to drive for quite a while now, but I can't afford a car. =/

I could potentially have a learner's permit later this year, but the issue of my height (5' 1'') comes to mind rather quickly...

Well my parents don't have trouble driving....
But others (such as myself) have trouble fitting into their car.

But being short means that I can't drive in a car with a high dashboard! D:

I have a learner's permit that'll expire this September, so I'll have to take that test again probably. And guess who just drove for the first time today?

Me.

That brings to mind a pet peeve. Whenever a teen gets a permit or license, some idiot soccer mom has to say "OH NO! EVERYONE OFF THE ROAD."

Seriously, that makes me want to punch heads.

I'd be on the news if I could drive. Probably for manslaughter.

You...you DO realize that that concern is valid under most circumstances, right..?

I think I got my permit right around the time I joined the wiki... then I got my license at the end of '05, and a really old car towards the end of '06.

No frikkin' kidding. They say that for EVERYONE. They'd be better off telling the joke about a chicken crossing said road.

This is hilarious because it's so true.
