Okay, wow. I read this thread and I'm...actually appalled by what a few of you said. You all talk about how Hairu should be able to take criticism and yet none of you actually offer true constructive criticism. Saying "Go back to Gaia" or "It's not funny and I didn't like it" or "GB2Hugbox" will not help ANYONE improve. You all complain about DeviantART and yet, from what I see, many of you have no better conception of artistry or criticism than most Deviants. The Arts and Crafts forum is a place to share what we've made, which is exactly what Hairu did. To immediately reply with "go back to hugbox" completely undermines the hospitality of this forum. Personally, I feel as though many of us could stand to be a little less judgmental and elitist. You can be supportive and help people improve without becoming a hugbox. It's all about learning how to give the right kind of criticism, and the right kind of criticism does not include mounting a high horse and behaving this rudely.

Pocky, the Cool Kids On the Internet dominate this place. Together we all discuss why Dane Cook sucks, Nintendo, and techno.

Anyways, they're okay. Shading's pretty cool.

After getting to read them, they're pretty good. Most of them, to me, aren't "ZOMG LOL WORTHY", but neither is most of the stuff on the internet. The style is also pretty good--I could never take the time to draw something like that in MS Paint (I'd have to hand-draw it).

Good jorb.

This is not a negative comment, by the way.

Hokay, put in my two cents. Carry on.

I'm afraid you've been gone too long, dear. That's how we roll now, for better or for worse.

Personally, I didn't think they were like the greatest things in the universe or anything, but they were sort of clever. Definitely could use some improvement, but I wouldn't advise you, Hairu, to stop or anything because of what people have said. Creative expression is important and yada yada. But you should definitely try to take people's constructive criticism and use it to make your stuff better.

Also, "the cool people on the Internet" all hate anime for a bunch of half-irrational reasons. I dunno why. I don't mind it. The fanatics/eltist fans of it are irritating but you get those with anything.

Yeah, but anime has many, many more annoying fans then most subcultures. There are a few pretty good shows out there, like Full Metal Alchemist and Bleach, but for the most part I think the COOL KIDS ON THE INTERNETS LOLOLOLO are justified on this one.

That being said, saying "gb2/hugbox" and whatnot may be a bit cruel, but if we just give this guy empty compliments, he's not going to improve at all. At least I put some suggestions in my post.

Actually, you're completely wrong, many people on this thread have offered real criticism. And you're doing exactly what you're claiming other people are doing - you're not offering any actual advice to the artist.

Also, most of the old people on the internet hate amine fans.

I wasn't sure about the bazooka joe post. I thought it was an insult. Sorry.

I am currently working on a comic short. I have it all sketched out on paper, and I'm gonna start making it on the computer today. I say it's a short because it's only 9 panels long. I wanted to fit in a clever joke I thought of, but I couldn't fit it in. I'll make that idea as a separate comic. This little story isn't exactly all that funny though. I'm planning on making several shorts like this, because three panel comics don't have much time to introduce a personality. As previously mentioned, I'm working on their characteristics, and Kotaro currently has none. This will be his characteristic.

His Characteristic is that he has no characteristics.

Please forgive the double post. this second post is because I have an important update.

I think that this is a step in the right direction visual wise. An updated version of one of my comics. It basically just has better shading, but it looks better.

To compare to the original, open these two image links in separate tabs, and go back and forth between them. This will be more effective to see the difference rather than just looking at both images on the same page. That may not sound right, but it does make sense when you do it.

I'm liking the new shading style, it's much more smooth and subtle.

The comic is also pretty good, though you may have wanted to place the "You died. Game over." text above the other word bubble.

It's about .001% different.

Not really--it's more...gradient-y.

Hmm. You're right. I do find myself often having character placement problems when it comes to text. (a frequent problem in Pichu's escape)

In relation to an earlier post, I now remember why I hate drawing comics on paper. When I draw on paper, half of a panel is eraser marks. Eventually, the erasing will start to eat through the paper. It is impossible to draw on the parts that have been eaten apart without the line being all jagged and rough. This ends up ruining it and I can't finish it because I'm too angry. I just tonight wasted over two hours drawing the first page of my long story comic, only to have the eraser eat the page at the most important drawing. I was ticked off and ripped up the comic. While that may have been a bit extreme, I would have just gotten more annoyed if it was still around for me to see. I might work on it on the computer some time, but I doubt it. So that's my reason for drawing on the computer.

Edit This still looks a little odd, but the text is more understandable this way. The problem is that it is the Game Boy that is saying the "Game Over" line, and not the guy. The voice line looks kinda strange this way.

Me too. The comic was taken completely from reality from this one kid who always asked for my help in games. I did this exact trick and I was happy. Though the kid still kept asking for help. It was a relief to finally move out of that survey and away from him.

And by the way, I've started making up character pages. I've only got one for Nokuta so far, (the yellow ball guy) but I do plan to make one for the other four as well. A lot of what is said in this page is what is to come from him in the future. Very little of it is stuff that happens now. I have to make a link to deviantart though since Photobucket messed up the text and made it hard to read.

Look, Hairu, I can definitely say your comic would've faired better here in, oh, early 2006.

That's no reason to give up. If there's one thing this forum has taught me, it's to not give up so easily. Someday I will end up making a comic someone here likes. until then, I'll keep on pluggin away at it. Persevere! Even if there is only one person keeping track of my comics to see if there is a good one, that's enough reason to keep trying.

I kinda like it.

The art wasn't bad, it's nothing new, though.

And it looks like you've put a lot of effort in it, so I guess it's pretty cool.
