I'm sure there have to be a few people on this forum that watch this show week after week, ignoring its faults. It's season seven right now, and they're slowly knockin' the top twelve down. Here's a cheat sheet of the contestants:

Ramiele Malubay - boring Asian lady
Syesha Mercado - boring black lady
Brooke White - good but bland singer, also a mother
Kristy Lee Cook - terrible singer who can't stop talking about being a small town girl and having a horsey
Carly Smithson - good Irish singer and performer
Amanda Overmyer - RAWKER who slurs everything together
Chikeze - either really boring or really good
David Archuleta - annoying kid who everyone loves
David Cook - hideous looking guy who is also a RAWKER
Jason Castro - low-key and good, nice voice
Michael Johns - boring Australian
David Hernandez - great singer, great performer, got voted off first round

Well, my favorite got voted off first round, so now I'm gunning for Castro. Who are you guys rooting for?

I'm not watching the show (I saw season four? and got tired of it since then) but I would like to ask what I believe is a pertinent question:

If this is *American* Idol, when then do I spy someone from Ireland and someone from Australia on that list? Have the judges forgotten about that one important rule?

He had a cameo last night, really getting into Kristy Lee's awful countrified version of "Eight Days a Week."

Capt: They're American citizens.

The true star of this season was Danny Noriega, the top 24 contestant who was so gay that he was more flaming than southern California in October.

Also, Amanda is hilariously bad. <3

AI is injustice. Any talent that comes to that show will be voted off. Why? Because talented people don't have time to whine or act quirky. They do their thing and then lay back.

Fat, 40 year old soccer moms will not vote for a talented person, they'll vote for someone who whines about their home life or someone who is SO FUNY AND CUT!

Not that many talented people come to Idol anyway.

In conclusion, no.

I never thought I'd say this, but I agree with Rusty.
I've never thought it was worth watching, no matter how much Fox tries to make me watch it.
If we were really going to reward musical talent, the show wouldn't be a popularity contest. They'd have actual people who know something about music voting on it, not any schmuck with a cell phone.

The "Vote for the worst" people like the show more than me.

Still, if you like the show, watch away. That's the way America works (or how it should work, anyway). I don't like the show, so I don't watch it.
I don't complain or try to get it taken off the air or anything like that. I just don't watch.

I hate this show with every fiber of my being. I wish FOX would do away with it.

The first couple of episodes of the rejects are pretty nice though.

Its like Family Guy; Old, Stale, the same thing over and over again, but Fox won't let it go.

Family Guy Pre-cancellation: No. Family Guy Post-Cancellation: Yes.

Proud supporter of VFTW.

Also, I don't see why some of you are so against it. No, they're not trying to find actual talent. They're trying to make a good show. They suck in the less intelligent and entertain those of us who like seeing stupid people be stupid.

I don't like how they dig so much for personal scandals. Hernandez's leave probably had a lot to do with them digging up his dark seedy past as a :O gay stripper.

Never happening as long as ratings are high. It looks as if the ratings are sliding down faster than Hernandez on a pole this year, though.

I love AI because it's rigged. I hate AI because it's rigged.

Here's proof that the audition round is rigged.

Here's proof that the voting process is rigged.

Also, former contestant Garrett Haley admitted in an interview that not only are the contestants this year relegated to only 24 songs to choose from, they must pick three and the producers decide which one "fits them best." This means that the producers' favorites get the perfect song every time (I'm lookin' at you, Archuleta and Carly) and underdogs like Alexandrea get saddled with songs that don't suit their vocal range or are just plain boring.

I'm content in the notion that Archuleta won't win. He'll fall into the "too-perfect" trap just like Tamyra, Clay, Theresa Sokyrka (from Canadian Idol, eh), Jennifer Hudson, Nadia, Mandisa, and Melinda. If he manages to avoid that, voter apathy will do him in, just like Daughtry and Blake.

I've noticed that the new opening titles (that are boring) and the new set (which is ugly) are only barely-hidden, cheap ruses to distract from the fact that the producers blew all their money on unnecessary and boneheaded celebrity guest stars last year and have to tighten the purse-strings this year.

GO MICHAEL JOHNS AND JASON CASTRO!

This a a site that contains articles such as "Castro is dead - CIA Runs Cuba." Look, I hate that the lame sort of pop singer wins every year and the best contestants never make it. I hate that every minute of American Idol is spent trying to get the viewer to give money to the producers. I hate Ryan Seacrest, Randy's hood-isms, Paula's slurring, and even Simon. But what I do like is chilling with some friends and just talking about each of the performances and their merits. The show is a money magnet, but it isn't evil. VFTW's exposes are laughable because they think people care. It's common sense that every person that auditions doesn't see the judges, and it's common sense that a few of the people will have had musical backgrounds. It's common sense that voting won't always work and it's common sense that people will be misplaced. It's also common sense that American Idol isn't looking for "the best talent in America", it's looking for entertainment. And that's what it is, just entertainment. I don't understand people who spend hours of their life trying to tell people why their entertainment isn't okay to enjoy.
