I Like how in the first games it says Blacked out, in Gold/Silver it says White out, and it D/P it says "You ran away to the pokemon center and threw money at the wild pokemon to distract it"

Competitive pokemon players remind me of how in every other episode of the anime they run into someone who's like "NO I DON'T NEED TO BE FRIENDLY WITH MY POKEMON, THEY'RE TOOLS FOR COMBAT"

I think an appropriate thing to say to such a kid would be something along the lines of "I don't think your pokemon aren't the only tools we've got here."

Ok wait a sec...what's the point of the rival in Gold/Silver?

I keep going through and defeating Gym Leaders and it only says "Winning Trainers: Shane". It doesn't mention the rival at all. The whole point of him in Red/Blue was that he was slightly better and faster than you, beating the Gym Leaders easier and winning the Pokemon League before you. That way, he'd be the final boss.

This guy (lets call him Silver) seems to just be around saying everything's "weak" and he will destroy it. I can't remember, does he even make it to the Pokemon League? Is Lance the final trainer (disregarding Red, who is the toughest in the game)? If so, why is Silver here?

Silver isn't doing much to hinder you, but he is helping Team Rocket. FR/LG confirms that Silver is Giovanni's son. Lance is the champion, however, on certain days of the week you can fight Silver at the Pokémon League. I don't remember which days. He'll appear to challenge you when you try to enter the first Elite 4 chamber.

He just gave me a whole speech about how Team Rocket is full of weaklings and how he will destroy all of them.

I remember having this happen. It's just not the same as fighting Blue at the end, though.

i remember in the R/B gen all you needed to beat the elite four was either charizard or blastoise, a pidgeot and a whole whack of revives
