I gotta agree with Spork, the airplane myth was just awesome. It was one of the very few rare moments where an experiement went exactly as planned. I kind of figured that myth was confirmed. I mean, my grandfather used to fly a little plane some years ago. And yours truely, as a cub, got to fly around in it a good lot. I even got to sit in the co-pilot's seat. Something very exciting for a wee cub. For this reason, I'm not afraid of heights. But back to the reason why I knew that this myth had to be true. See, when my grandfather would start his plane, like a car would, it would just slowly creep along by itself if you didn't push the throttle. Like a car in drive. He would usually let the plane do this until we got to the end of the run way. Then turn the plane around, pick up speed going the opposite direction, and take off. Oh, what great fun that was. Sadly, though, since my grandfather has lost almost all of his hearing, he's had to sell his plane and hasn't flown in years. See, he couldn't hear if the carbon monoxide alarm was going off or not. Something very dangerous. I miss soaring over our mountains. So peaceful and beautiful. |

Holy Swizzle Sticks, that sounds like some incredible experiences you had there as a kidlet, Indy. So anyway, I think the thing about the airplane thing that surprised me the most was not the fact that the plane can just kind of trundle along the runway--that seemed pretty obvious to me--but that the blades have such slicing power. I mean, I figured you'd get a nasty, sword-like cut from one on your bare flesh, possibly loosing something, but I never figured it'd be able to tear through metal like that. Wow. Random MB-related thought: Is there ANYTHING Jamie hasn't done? Special effects worker, survival expert, pilot, certified scuba diver, champion mustache and beret wear-er... |

Yeah, it's official now, he's done everything. Except shave his mustache, that it. |

I'd like to see Jamie's entire resume. Because it seems like every few episodes, we learn about some job he's had in the past that we've never heard about. |

Cyber, yeah, those experiences flying over our mountains with my grandfather where probably some of the best experiences in my life...I miss them... Anywho-what-where-when-why-and-how?, Jamie's probably got a resume about as long as his arm. He's been everywhere and done everything, it seems. I'd do anything just to sit and talk with him for a few hours. And Adam too. Hear stories and such. I like hearing a good story. It didn't surprise me much that the blades cut through metal. I mean, look how fast they're going. You can stick almost anything (I said almost, so no one bug me about that) in the blades of a plane, going at top speed of course, and they'll just rip right through it. A lot of pilots way back in the early 20th century lost their limbs, and maybe even their lives, to manual-start planes. Turning the blades by hand to start the plane. Much like they used to crank a car to start it. Many people got injured that way too. Think about that next time your car won't start. You got it easy. You don't have to risk getting slapped in the face or breaking your arm to start your car. They did. |

well, it really wasnt a matter of if it would cut the plane, just if it was possible to make the plane get there and do it. because the body of a plane is just 1/8 inch sheet metal, probably aluminum, with multiple layers of fabric glues to it and paint....not to strong |

You got a point there, Weird Al. Well, anyways, it was a fun thing to watch. And probably an even more fun thing to do. I watched Mythbusters today, old episodes, yeah. But one was my favorite. It had to do with killer playing cards. If you can throw a playing card and kill someone with it. I knew for a fact that you couldn't. But still... ...I watched on some show a long time ago (Ripley's??) and they showed a guy who was a trained assasin (however that's spelled, I don't have a dictionary handy at the moment) in the Chinese government. How he killed his target was, he threw a needle at them and hit them between the eyes. It actually went into their head, into their brain, killing them. He proved that he could do so by throwing a needle clean through a 55 gallon aquarium filled with water. Yeah, it went clean through it. So, maybe, just maybe, if your trained right, you could kill someone with a playing card. Right now, I just creeped myself out some saying that. I'm going to go set the alarm now. Yeah, just some extra security. Just some extra precautions. |

and, you know, there's always the option of lacing the card with some kind of poison. o-o although that doesn't /technically/ count, but anyone who would poison someone via playing card probably doesn't give a rip about rules. |

It reminds me of a book I read as a kidlet, which had a character in it who was an old lady bodyguard. She was called "Soft Parts" Doreen, and she had knitting needles of DOOM. Toastpaint. |

I have a question, why is it that the commercials keep talking about all new Mythbusters every Wednesday at 9pm, but yet they're all repeats? |

That's a very good question, Ramrod. I've been wondering that myself. They did the same thing to Dirty Jobs, saying new episodes where supposed to be on every Tuesday night. And they where showing reruns. But... ...finally... ...they have a new episode coming next week. I can understand how cleaning a wine cave (yeah, I said cave, not cellar) can be dirty. But the second job they showed, airport luggage inspector/security/something I can't really remember, I don't see how that can be dirty. But I guess there's going to be a way that they'll make it dirty. I dunno for sure how. But they'll do it. Anywhat's-it-all-about-Alfie?, I'm ready for a few new episodes of Mythbusters. Reruns are great, really they are. But they get stale after so long. You can only watch 'Static cannon' so many times, you know? |

It took me two or three times to be able to watch the entire episode of Mega Movie Myths. Also the same with the Christmas special. Alright, a question. I watched 22,000 Ft Fall today. And I'm kind of bugged by the 'Does leaving the light on save energy' myth. What bugs me is, the little LED lights (if that's what they're called) never went out. I wonder just how long it would take to make one burn out. Anyone have any guesses? |

I've seen LED flashlights where the lamps are rated to 100,000 hours. Obviously, you'd have to change the batteries, but yeah, LEDs, by their nature, last a REALLY long time. They don't have a filament to burn through (like incandescent bulbs) and they don't have transformers that burn out (like fluorescent). My favorite application of LEDs (besides [s]bombs[/s] signs is the LED traffic light. Those things are monstrously bright, even when the sun is shining directly on them. For more on LEDs, check it, yo. |

Yeah, I know what you mean about LED lights being so bright, Rad. I went on some tours at Mammoth Cave some years ago. And on one tour they made us wear a head light thing (you know, it fits onto your head, so you don't have to carry a flashlight) and it had just four little LED lights. But even in some of the biggest cave rooms, you could almost see everything from those little lights. It was amazing. Very good place to vacation. I recommend it. As far as myths go, back on subject, I got to see one of the pilot episodes again acouple of days ago. Jeto Rocket Car/Pop Rocks and Coca Cola. I can't help but think that episode was one of the coolest episodes there was. Rockets on a remote controlled car. Who wouldn't want to play with that? That's the ultimate RC. |

I hate the LED brake lights on cars, for me, it's hard to tell if it's light up or not, because even if they arn't braking, it is really bright so you think that they are braking. |

LEDs are excellent. And as the LEDbulb in the Myth-office proved, they also look ridiculous(ly cool) enough to satisfy all your dorky needs. I really want some Pop Rocks now. |

LEDs are amazing. It's really hard not to give into the temptation to look directly into them. >.> XD It also took me a little longer than it should have to grasp the fact that the color of the light has nothing to do with the color of the bulb. But still. I wanna get a bunch of little LEDs and make some Throwies. Those things look like a lot of fun. Especially if I can find a really big metal thing to throw them at. Like a bridge or something. Or a truck. |

Really, I wouldn't mind one of those head light things with the LED lights like I had to use in the caves. That thing was cool. I think my Handy-Cam has infrared LED lights in it. It has night vision. The manual said something about LED lights. I dunno. I got a problem with my cam, though. I bought it and I have nothing to film now. I took it to our look out point here in town and got a good land scape pan of the mountains and towns and such. And I've filmed my cat doing various things. Hoping it'd do something funny to send into one of those Funniest Videos shows. It's a shot at money. Could care less about the fame. But really, other than that, I have nothing to film. Why do artists suffer? Writer's block constantly, photographer's block, filmer's block, animator's block. It's all one big freakin' block. |

It's all one big freakin' block. I like to say, "It isn't so much a block as the feeling someone dumped and entire tub of Legos into my brain." Toastpaint, though. |

I've suddenly become a big fan of Mythbusters. The first episode I saw was the one where they tried to beak a glass with only their voices. My favorite was "Ming Dynasty Astronaut." |

That was one of the few myths that I didn't have the slightest notion of whether it might or might not be busted. Usually, I can make a guess whether a myth will be busted or not and sometimes get it right. A little game of mine. Like watching Jepardy at home and guessing the answers. I get bored easy. Very easy. So I try to guess things like that on shows. That's why I like murder mysteries so much. I like to try to guess who done it. I was hoping they'd have a Mythbuster's marathon for this president's day. But instead they showed Future Weapons all day long. What a show. Glorifying how we can kill each other with new high tech weapons. I'm not much on stuff like that really. Just kind of disturbing for me. |
