also at least one bot character if we can't get another human to play

how about we both have our markers on random

and why bot

random is good

bots add variety

Throws should be a God Mode move again

Like they were in the Original Smash Bros

Yeah, I loved throws in SSB. They're not nearly as good anymore, I barely use them.

Backwards Throw @ 100% = Instant kill

I swear every time I got my bonus awards (WHERE ARE THEY IN BRAWL SAKURAIIIIII) "Throw Down" was one of them.

I do not see how the game always devolving into a throw fest at high percents was a good thing. It gets dull after a while! Weaker throws are much less game breaking. Plus you can just follow up your throw with an attack, run after the guy.

Plus they are still very useful in switching the tide of a fight from defensive to offensive. Shield-grabbing is pretty vital defense to stand up against a real good opponent.

Yeah, the throws in SSBB have been overshadowed by the Final Smashes and the spiffy new special moves. Shame too, because I too remember using them much more frequently in Melee. Some characters in Brawl do have some cool throws though. I can't name any specific examples off the top of my head... but you know what I'm talking about.

Eh, I guess it might be that I main King Dedede and Olimar who both have nice good throws. Don't forget Dedede's chaingrab! Some guys like Link and Samus, yeah, it makes sense not to use grabs, but for most characters they're a useful move in your arsenal. They just don't send people ridiculuously far away every frickin' time.

At any rate, any time your opponent directly attacks into your shield and you merely don't take damage, that's a missed oppurtunity. Press the A button right after his attack and grab the sucker.

Edit: Also kerrek_slaya if you still want some actual smash brothers action the tournament is starting up again, this time 9pm Saturday. If you don't want to or can't join I'll just leave you alone after this. (I was unable to participate last week too. Crazy real life activities!)

Sweet! Definitely joining. Thanks a lot.

ANOTHER EDIT: Never mind, I figured it out.

This is just my opinion, but in melee throws are for n00bs.
I remember when I was still fighting Classic on very easy(I didn't know you could
have computer opponents in melee's) and I would be throwing
and not doing anything else. Then as I got better I realized
they weren't the best techniques. Now, in Brawl, they're
somewhat better, if only by a little.

...why the heck would you be throwing and not anything else? In any game. :-|

It wasn't the throws that were the problem.

As far as I know Smash Attacks were still fairly powerful. Throws were only good if you could 1 grab the person and 2 throw them in the right direction.

Throws are fairly ineffective in Brawl now because why throw a person when I could hit them with a Smash Attack and send them farther?

It might just be conflicting styles here. You seem more like a finesse/combo maniac (Marth). I've always been more of a strong hit to KO kind of guy (Roy).

Big blue is completely different than it was in melee

In melee there were always a few platforms around, and no less than 4 cars.

Most of Brawl Big blue is just 3 cars speeding around

You know how all bosses in platformers have this one move that's powerful but puts them in an extremely vunerable postition, and no mattter how many times you beat the heck out of them after they do it, they keep doing it for the entire battle?

That's what playing Toon Link mainers is like

No, I beat them every time, but when I decided to
try harder opponents(and after watching how to play)
I realized Luigi's Aerial Combat was a much more affective
method.

Doesn't look too different to me. The platforms were always random I thought.
And that is German.

They're definitely different. Melee's Big Blue has four cars almost always together, and always has multiple platforms hovering about. Brawl's Big Blue has only three cars (and that usually becomes two) and very rarely has more than one platform on the screen (often there are none).

Has anyone tried Brawl with the Wii Wheel yet? It seems like it would work out well for those having issues with the B-Trigger, but I haven't tried it out myself.
