I was very upset when I realized it was the same course for everyone.

Alright! I got the No-Damage Clear in Melee! I actually did it in All-Star Mode, not Classic Mode. I discovered that DK's ground slap could 1-hit KO almost every character when they're set to Very Easy. So I tried it in All-Star mode. After a couple of attempts (due to annoying luck, like crates spawning right on top of you and hitting you for damage without giving you time to react), I got it! Woo! All that's left is Celebi Catcher, which shouldn't be too hard. Thanks for all the help.

My wife bought Brawl for me.
I love her.

In a week or so, after I'm comfortable with the controls, I'll battle some of you (and get totally pwn'd).

What control scheme do you all use?

I'm using the wii+nunchuck right now, and it's OK. I'm used to using that combination for Cars and The Simpsons.

I'm thinking about using a gamecube controller or maybe buying a "classic".
Any thoughts?

Don't buy a classic, it's a waste of money.
Use GCN controller.

For me, nunchuck was the hardest, though I'm not sure why. Vertical wiimote was okay, but the movement was a little tricky (better than I thought it'd be, but harder than a control stick). I find the gamecube controller to be the best, perhaps just 'cause I'm used to it.

Either GameCube controller or the wiimote on it's side, the Wiimote was surprisingly easy to get used to for me.
But the GameCube controller would probably be the most familiar, so…

Wiimote is alright if you don't want to play good.

Nunchuck is fine

Gamecube has all the buttons in easier reach and it has the C-stick

Classic Controller for me.

I actually haven't even got around to trying to use the Gamecube controller for Brawl... maybe I should... maybe it'll help me step up my game. Anyways, I use the Wiimote + Nunchuck on a regular basis. Sometimes I use the Classic Controller, but 'mote + 'chuck has seemed to work best for me so far.

Okay, so no-one told me that I needed to have 5000 KOs recorded before I could see Celebi in Melee. Just looked it up.

...Any advice on getting 5000 KOs quicker than just battling vs. matches again and again and again?

I was playing long timed matches with the damage ratio set to 2.0 with three level 9 CPUs as enemies... That's the quickest method I could figure out, anyone got any others?

I like using the Nunchuck and Wiimote together.
ITS THE GAME OF THE CENTURY!

I'd suggest neither at this point in time. Instead, I'd recommend the Thrustmaster T-Wireless NW controller. It basically combines the best of both worlds with wireless functionality, rumble support, turbo and slow buttons, and the ability to play certain Virtual Console games that the Gamecube controller has issues with. While I haven't tried out the controller yet, it seems to be getting some great reviews by people (especially since it's the same price as the Classic Controller), though since it plugs into the Gamecube controller ports, you'll have to worry about it not being compatible with games that only use the Classic Controller and not the Gamecube controller (though that's only a few of them).

As for me, I still use the Classic Controller option. I feel too tethered to my Wii with the Gamecube controller, the Wiimote and Nunchuck combination doesn't feel as responsive for me, and the Wiimote itself would be fine if it just had one more easily accessible button.

The tournament starts tomorrow, so if I could get a solid and finalized list of the participants from this side before then, that'd be great.

The 5 times I've played Brawl I've stuck to the Gaemcube controller, because that is what feels natural to me, and anyway, I hate change.

I think I've found a good way to do this. From the list of eight people I posted before, I found the five that posted in either Brawl thread most recently

Ace
Ju Ju
Rusty
Disk
Greg

Susan, ExJon, Kerrek and these five people will play in the fanstuff tournament. Any objections?

Nobody objected...that sounds good to me.

EDIT: btw if you're making a list of the characters we'll probably be using like you did for them, i'll definitely be playing as marth.

ANOTHER EDIT: I originally started playing with the Nunchuk (because I needed to practice, that's all they would allow in the gamestop tourney), but now that i lost out of that (final round of district..best 3 out of 5! i won the first two...then this guy comes back and won the next 3!!!! AS PIKACHU!!!!!!) I'm back to the good ol' gamecube pad.

Ha ha, I've come to the conclusion that King Dedede is broken.

In a single 1v1 no-items final destination round, his forward B obtained me a Warp Star, a Maxim Tomato, and a Final Smash. :-D

That's because you didn't turn items off

Nah, they were off. Maxim Tomatoes were turned off twice over, due to me having them off in item rounds.

Every one of them were set to off?

Because if you set them to "None" they can still show up.

But regardless, throwing a randomly selected item at your opponent that will most likely help them isn't really broken

Perhaps, but at any rate, they still weren't supposed to show up.

And I meant broken in a joking sense, I know its fair because each player has an equal chance to grab the item.

Gah, Tabuu is really annoying me. I beat him in SSE, but only because I had six friggin' characters, so Boos mode is a real pain. Anytime he does his "grow wings and do some crazy crap", I die instantly. The shield didn't even seem to work. Anyone have any advice for that part?

When he does the wings thing he shoots out three Red rings of death, once you get the timing down you should be able to use the ground dodge to avoid them

Yes...it's hard to avoid those friggin' death rings, but when you learn to dodge 'em, it's immensely helpful... prevents a lot of unnecessary deaths.

Are you sure that BOTH of you had items set to "off"?

Also, make that text at the bottom cooler.

We both had items set to "none", which typically gets the job done just fine. But no, the individual items were still technically on. I don't really care though, it was all in good fun.

Also me and Susan both need to find ways to not stupidly suicide when we battle each other.
