Adult Swim also totally spoiled some stuff for me. But then again, I got curious.

And this was all in two seconds.

Also holy crap three episodes and it's already intense.

Seriously, though. I have always liked Light better as a character than L, he's got so much more depth than just 'blugh, I'm a weird antisocial genius.'

So one thing that puzzles me about the second guy light kills.

I don't know anything about japanese, but Does it really take that many characters to say "this guy gets ran over by a truck"
And why are most of the characters repeated over and over.
And how does light write all this in 10 seconds

Only the last name is Taco. He wrote the cause of death next to his name; the ones above are other people.

Remember, about 5 seconds later, there was a flashback where he filled up half the book? That was between the kidnapper and Taco.

Those are all the possible ways to spell the guy's name. It'd be like hearing a guy's name was Jonathan but trying Johnathan, Jonnathan, whatever, until you get it right.

In the rules before a commercial in episode 11 (I think) it said "The Death Note will become inactive if a person's name is misspelled four times", but that might not be part of official 'continuity'. Or my theory is right.

He wrote down all of those names after he stumbled into the alleyway and gave his "do I really have the right to take lives" monolouge.

Also it appears Jitka got it right.

Well, according to the Manga (which follows the exact same story), he filled up an entire page with names before he met Ryuuku. He knew that the Death Note would kill people, but what he was doing just didn't hit him until he actually saw the killer and the biker guy die.

He only starts filling it up once he knows people will die, the biker dude was the second guy he kills, the one he uses to see if the notebook really works or if the first guy was a coincidence.

Also, when Ryuuku first arrives, he is shocked that Light had filled up a page already. So he must have been killing before he had actually tested the book.

Um no

Biker is the second person Light kills. It is five days before he meets Ryuk. Light knows he can write the cause of death because it is stated on the inside of the Note with the rules in it.

Ryuk arrives in the human world 5 days after Light picks up the note and is surprised at "all the names" Light has written. Light has filled plenty of pages with the names of "all the major criminals".

Yeah, he's writing out all the different spelling of the guy's name, as it says in the fansub of it.
