I thought Mario Galaxy with spherical worlds and such was a one-time deal. Or do they just mean a Mario sequel in general?

They have talked about doing continuations of the Mario Galaxy series, though you never know what will actually happen with Nintendo.

I'd be happy with a new Galaxy, 'cause there's a lot of potential for it to be SOOO much better than the first Galaxy, which was already pretty cool.

My problem with Galaxy was that it was way too easy. New Galaxy better be more of a challenge.

^ This. I got 119 stars within the week I got it, I had only played it maybe an hour and a half a day. But it was SUCH a great game, god yes.

I got the last star three months ago just cause I was lazy and forgot about the game

I know! In Mario Galaxy, you just got lives all the time!

However, if you play as luigi you don't get to keep any lives you collect. As soon as you'd load the game, your lives are reset to 4 and MailToad will give you 20 one-ups.

If you could easily beat the Daredevil star with that rock boss, Luigi's purple coin challenge, and the purple coins in Dreadnought Galaxy, then you're not human.

Oh God I hated that. I don't think I've actually beaten him yet.

They just need to a) make it more open ended, like 64 and Sunshine, and b) give it more Good Egg / Gusty Garden style galaxies (the two best galaxies which, coincidentally, also have the two best songs). Then we would have an truly amazing game.

I don't get what you mean by this. Do you mean more free to do what you want?

Post subject:  Re: E3 2008

I say that they should keep it the way it is now, with a few open-ended stages and a bunch of linear stages. Since just about every star throws you onto a different path in a level, it is like the older, more linear games.

Less linear. In 64 and Sunshine the whole level was open to you pretty much from the start, and you could explore around everywhere and figure out what you have to do. In galaxy, you spawned on a planet, did something often fairly obvious, used a warp star, did something there, etc., etc. It was more action than adventure - almost like an extremely upgraded 3D version of the original Super Mario Bros games. There's nothing wrong with that, but what made 64 was great and groundbreaking was the open levels - that's what the 3D Mario platformers are supposed to be about, in my mind. That's what makes them great.

Galaxy did have a few open-ended, or half open-ended levels (like, a few stars were very open ended, others not). Think Deep Dark and Sea Slide. Unfortunately, most of them were, ugh, water based. If they made some open-ended Good Egg style levels, i would be very happy.

Gotcha. I hadn't realized that Galaxy was this way until now- and maybe that's why I finished it so quickly. Yes, more open-ended games would be great for the series. It was, as you said, A 3-D Mario Bros. game. There was no confusion as to what you needed to do next.

Was Good Egg towards the beginning? I don't remember anything in that game except for like a pirhanna plant miniboss and the opening level.

^THIS. Case in point: about 3/4 of the way through the game, you get this red star powerup that lets you fly around and hover, similar to the Wing Cap in 64. You use it in exactly ONE level. I mean, think about it: you could be flying through space and slingshoting by planets, doing all kinds of crazy things, but they totally ignored all that. I know, time constraints and all, but hopefully they'll expand on it in the sequel. Exploring a huge, open-ended galaxy is too awesome to ignore.

Question:

Why do people put so much emphasis on E3, anyway?

Author:  Acekirby [ Thu Jul 17, 2008 1:45 am ]
Post subject:  Re: E3 2008

Because of what it was in the past. Basically it was this huge expo where all the major gaming companies would come together every year, and map out all their plans for the forthcoming year. They would introduce all their new, groundbreaking titles, and any possible/planned new hardware.

Unfortunately, in the past few years, for some unknown reason, the expo got completely nerfed, and as you've seen, produces about nothing of worth anymore.

umm yeah I'll resolve that in PM

I forgot her name, but she's the most annoying spokesperson that Nintendo could have chosen for their press conference...

Okay, I have now lost all hope in Nintendo's first party efforts:

Quote:
Q: In Animal Crossing Wild Word, if one person disconnected from the online experience, everybody else would suffer. Will the same be true of City Folk

A: Yeah. Same issues, he says.
Fail.
Quote:
Q: In the GCN title, you could play NES games. What about the Wii version?

A: Unfortunately, no. Anything you have on the VC will have to be played on the VC. Want to keep them separate.
Fail.
Quote:
Q: Will the game use the Wii Weather Channel for real-time weather data?

A: Thought about doing that, but didn't want to limit the experience to real seasons. If it's always raining in Seattle, it would always be raining in Animal Crossing. (Not sure why they couldn't just add an option to turn it on or off for gamers who would want it.)
Fail. Make it an option.

We've known that Animal Crossing Wii has been in development for two years--they talked about it back in September of 2006. What have they been doing this entire time, and why should we buy the game if we can just import all of Wild World's items into it?

Quote:
Q: Have third-parties started using Wii MotionPlus?

A: Doesn't really know.
Fail...
Quote:
Q: Is Wii MotionPlus the new Wii remote?

A: Still evaluating.
Fail...

Quote:
Goodie, Yankee Doodle [being played in Wii Music] but in really awful MIDI. Ever hear those awful ringtones for RAZRs? Yeah, it's something like that.
FAIL.

Eh, I don't care much for online play in something like Animal Crossing. And I have never ever gotten a game through Virtual Console (or even hooked my Wii up so it's possibly for online anything). I guess I'm a casual gamer.

Although yeah, the other stuff isn't too good.

And I lol'd at that, Disk.

Someone asks why Nintendo is calling this a game instead of a musical toy. Isn’t it more like a toy, the person asked. Miyamoto answered (not verbatim), yes…it is more like a toy. That’s why it’s more fun than a video game.

Wow. Thats all I can say.
