I'm a poor teenager, I can't draw with a mouse and I want to get a nice tablet for Christmas and my birthday. I was thinking the graphire4, because I think I tested one out at a store and it seemed really easy to use. Anybody got any suggestions for something better or cheaper or both? I think I want to get the 6*8 one, which is like $100 more expensive than the 4*5. I don't know!

Graphire is ok, but not much special. It's the one I use, but there are much better ones out there for relatively similar prices at best buy.

Look for an intuos, but they can get expensive.

Wacom has a proiducts list with each one's price on it's page: http://www.wacom.com/productinfo/

I looked for the cheapest intuos I could find, and it was double the price...

For that kind of money, a Graphire4 is almost certainly going to be your best bet. Be sure you can handle its small drawing area, though. It's too small for me to use, but then, I'm not that great an artist to begin with. A 6x8 is probably going to be a lot better than the 4x5. Right now I use a 9x12, and it's almost too big for me...

I've seen intuos go for just under $200 at best buy. Maybe they're on sale or something.

That'd probably be the best bet, then... remember that you're gonna be stuck with the tablet for a long time after you buy it, so it's better to go the extra mile in buying one if you can.

This is what I have: refurbished Graphire 4x5

I think it's the cheapest possible Wacom tablet you can get, while still having a guarantee of quality. It works like a regular Wacom 4x5 but it's preowned and they replace the parts that get worn. Pretty good deal if you're looking for something temporary until you can afford a better one.

Jeopardy! cornered the market on those.

Hey guys. It's like, crunch time, or whatever. My mum is all "well I need to know what you want."

The bigger size for the graphire4 doesn't seem to exist anymore, but for the same price I can get the medium sized bamboo fun. Good idea?

I'm so paranoid about making the wrong decision.

It's probably a good idea. I wouldn't really know for sure, but I doubt you'll seriously be kicking yourself over it.

Yeah, I think they replaced the graphire line with the bamboo one.

I guess it depends what you're doing with the tablet. People told me smaller ones are actually better if you're trying to make good art because you have better control over small movements than large ones. So I just got the smallest intuos and I like it. But if you like large, sweeping movements or you'll be doing a lot of full screen scribbling or if you ever want to write stuff with the tablet, obviously a bigger one would be better.

The only difference I could see between intuos and bamboo was the level of precision. I didn't want even the possibility of being disappointed sometime in the future so I went with the intuos, but really, how are you gonna tell the difference between 500 and 1000 levels of sensitivity? Or between 2500 and 5000 (or something) lines per inch? A bamboo should be fine, I think, unless someone with more experience could come in and correct me.

This might actually be true, though I think 4x6 might be too small. I never got much use out of my Graphire, and right now it sits on the floor collecting dust. My current tablet is pretty big -- I certainly don't need a bigger one -- but I usually make multiple strokes for big lines anyway, unless I'm inking, in which case I do it in a vector art program and tweak the lines after they're drawn anyway. So the large size isn't that big a handicap.

That could actually make a significant difference if you work with very large brush sizes with variable pressure.
