this is going to the more techy nerds out there. i need help upgrading my RAM, because my cats won't do it for me. so... i took the RAM out of my old computer and put it in the new, but every time, every card, every combination and every order i try, the computer always makes a beeping sound and fails when i turn it on, unless i put the original and that alone inside. how do i put new cards in? |

Make sure you have the right RAM too. There are different versions that won't work with certain computers. |

How old is the RAM? What type of RAM does your computer support? And you have tried the other slots? Sounds like it might just be the wrong type or damaged. |

"Try the other slots" is not really a good thing to do. If you don't know where RAM goes, you probably shouldn't be messing around inside your computer. If you don't know which type of RAM to use, you should also just leave the case on your computer. It's a lot easier than having to get a new one. |

they are quite old, and they did come out of a mac. but everything else worked, even the hard drive. so how far does different type go? 'casue i have got one that won't fit in the holder thing because there aren't enough holes. |

This will tell you a lot about the stuff you need to know. I REALLY suggest you read it before you even attempt to mess around inside your computer. Otherwise, you might REALLY mess stuff up. |

But yeah, if it's old AND from a Mac (you're putting the RAM into a PC, right)?, then it's most likely incompatible. |

EDIT: Simulpost'd J-Man has a point. There's a very, very, very, very, very good chance that the memory just isn't compatible. Especially if you got it out of an old Mac. |
