Post subject:  Help with installing Photoshop...

...well, not quite Photoshop. A CD-R my friend from school gave me for free. It's all scratched & stuff, but it installed fine on the desktop my brother & I have. Now that I have my own lappy (graduation FTW!), I can't seem to install the CD again. I'm on Vista, & I've tried running Autoplay by itself, as an administrator, and in 3 compatibility modes, and...nothing.

Is there a way to move the Photoshop program files and registry stuff from my old computer to my lappy?

Does the desktop that you and your brother use run Vista?

Yeah, Home Basic and it works fine on there. My lappy is Home Premium.

This may be needed.

Says the update doesn't apply to my system. I've had this lappy for almost 2 weeks, so that must mean I already have it. Unless....the desktop has TweakVI. Maybe Photoshop'll work with that!

It might just be the disc. Take a soft napkin or a piece of toilet paper and gently wipe the cd from inside to out, all around. Whenever I had a really busted CD and it got fixed right up by that. If that doesn't work, then you might want to buy a CD cleaning kit.

Tried that about 4 times now. I'm still clueless as to why it installed fine one the desktop compy but not my new lappy.

What happens when you try to install it? Can you open the files on the CD?
Otherwise, if you (or your friend who gave you the CD) have the serial number, you can look for a demo of your version and register then register it.

BTW, I thought I heard a rumor that Vista doesn't have a registry anymore? If that's true, since I don't have Vista, I wouldn't know how to just copy the stuff from one to the other.

When I open Autoplay, the disk spins & spins & spins but just stops after a while and nothing opens.

...and that download link didn't work. CRAP.

Maybe there is a chance then that the disc doens't work in your lappy (the compy might have a better CD drive). If you have some blank CDs lying around, you can try burning it onto another one for your laptop.

Maybe Vista just blows chunks.

Then how come it installed and worked fine on my Vista desktop?

Because Vista has no consistency. It's buggy as heck.

Or your CD drive sucks.

Gee, thanks. You're a lot of help.

So I'm using Paint.NET until I get my friend to come over here & check it out. I miss Quick Mask, Healing Brush, and Stroke.

I don't mean to sound rude... but it sounds like you are asking for help installing an illegal piece of software. Is that not the case?

If so, please do it elsewhere. We don't support that kind of stuff. If you want the program to work... go out and buy it.
