The screen on my laptop has suddenly begun to have random squares arranged in a pattern. The pattern changes depending on what's on the screen - on the login screen, for example, there are white dots with smaller blue ones on each white dot's side, but it's completely different for the startup screen. Rebooting hasn't worked, and the problem is still present in safe mode. Google was no help either.

Does anyone know what i can do, or at least know the root of the problem? I'm really at a loss - i've never seen anything like this before.

How old is your laptop? Can you take a picture of it?

Your screen's probably dying (I'm assuming). Just take it to the store you bought it from so they can look at it.

Just over three years (with a three year warranty... X-( ). My dad's fiddling with it right now, trying to see if the graphic card is connected correctly, but we both have no idea if that's the actual problem (so, at the moment, I can't take a picture). Since it changes depending onwhat the screen is showing, I'm thinking it might be a card problem (graphic or video, not sure which) but I don't know what about the card is causing it or how to fix it.

Aren't the graphics card and video card the same?

If the video card isn't connected correctly, it wouldn't work at all. You need to check the connection between the monitor and the motherboard. That was the problem with my laptop.

(my laptop is 12 years old, by the way; I only use it for the sake of using it)

I had one like that. Unfortunately, since I couldn't get a copy of Doom on a Floppy, i only used it for that Mead Star Finder that came with it.

Either way, Pics or it didn't happen.

That sounds promising, Jello. Are they connected underneath the keyboard?

I... don't really care whether you believe it's actually happening or not. If it's nessecary to help fix it, I'll post pictures.
