So, I've noticed ever since I tried ripping all my CDs to iTunes that I've had this sound quality problem. I just recorded what it sounds like and I've noticed a lopsidedness between left and right input. I'm thinking it's the drive itself and that it may have been made in crap quality.

What's the brand of your drive?
How old? What speed?

It's a LightScribe DVD Multi Recorder. We got it around four months ago so I could use the DVD-Rs I got for Christmas.

And the computer is a Dell Dimension 4700 that we got during Christmas season 2004.

That's pretty much all the specs I can give.

Hm... At this point I'd look at the tech support on the LightScribe website, or give them a call on their 800 number. It's still relatively new, so it shouldn't be screwing up already.

Your computer is old, though. There may be a compatibility issue.

Woahwoahwoahwoahwoah... the HP Pavilion 2700 or something my family had from Feb '97 up to Christmas '04 was old. A Dell Dimension 4700 we got Christmas '04 is not.

Yeah. Point is, I doubt there's a compatibility issue, since it worked fine up until that point.

Also, I'm making a bet that under the current economic conditions and the family's finances, my parents will get a new one in '14. Which will then become mine a few years later when they have to be shipped to the old folk's home/move in with somebody/die.

It's not the drive. CD's are digital, so when you read from it, you're reading it bit-for-bit. It's a problem with either the iTunes encoder or decoder.

Well, it's not JUST iTunes. When I want to play a DVD, I get that audio problem that I gave an example of in the first post.

Do you get the problem when you listen to sounds played through Flash?
