On my old computer, firefox used to tell me when I spelt a word wrong by putting a red line under it.

That doesn't happen on my new computer, even though I have the "Check my spelling as I type" box ticked.
How do I make it work?

You sure you have the latest stable version of firefox installed?

Not Firefox 3, but the latest version 2.whatever.whatever

It automatically updates too.

More ideas?

Did you download the dictionary addon? I had to do that before it would check my spelling.

Yes, thanks. It worked.

I got the Australian dictionary too so now I don't have to ignore the spell checking on some words.
