Does anyone know a place where I can get a free domain name. Not like "www.whatiwant.freecrapsite.com" but, "www.whatiwant.com".

I don't think you can get a .com address for free.

Oh, and the HelpDesk is for wiki-related help questions.

Yup. You get to pay for it like the rest of us. It's not like it's expensive.

Well, now that this is here, may I ask if any of you guys know a site that will host my page that's relatively cheap, and has no problem running flash? I need to get out of Tripod, but don't want to go to some cheap place that won't run Flash.

Web hosts don't "run" Flash -- Flash files are downloaded to the client (the user's computer) and run there. Any hosting that will let you upload .swf files will let you show Flash movies. Almost all paid hosting will let you upload .swf files, so take your pick. The only blockage you're likely to run into is bandwidth -- if you host a Flash file that's very large and turns out to be very popular, you may suddenly run up against your bandwidth limit, so consider that in choosing packages. You should be able to get a decent starter hosting package for around $5/mo.

Ahh...thank you IJ. Do you have any suggestions though? Like Dreamhost, or the one you use? I mean, neither I nor my friend have tons of money, so we need to find a halfway reliable server that's at a reasonable price.

ChromeHost is surprisingly good for a free host, so long as you don't mind placing a banner for them on your pages. Nice thing is, it doesn't have to be a certain design, you you can make one to fit with your pages if you so like.

A couple of places I have used:

http://www.ehostsource.com - $5.75/ month gives you most everything you could want or need except for an SSL login. You're limited to ftp. This makes it difficult to install software.

http://www.westhost.com - $6.95/month. Currently my favorite hosts ever. Everything you could want or need is provided.

Yes, it's quite good to know that racerx is alive. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I got a godaddy adress, but I couldn't find out how my page got on on the internet. Yeah, I'm not very technical. Did I need to buy a whole 'nother thing to actually get my page online?

See Domain Name System. All you need to know is in there.

And reading GoDaddy's FAQ page should help.

By default ads are turned on, but you CAN turn them off (in MyDotTK ยป Linker Promo) . Also, you get 4 redirect email addresses (yourname@whatever.tk).

.tk is probably the best you can get if you don't want to pay for anything.
