Try exiting completely out of your browser, then re-open it, and try it again. That happened to me a few minutes ago.

I can't say for sure, but it might have something to do with the phpbb upgrade we performed today. You may have just hit the forums at exactly the wrong time.

Will this update affect anything? Or did it just change the numbers at the bottom of the page?

lol

Of course the update does stuff. What would the point of updating your system be if it didn't do anything? :)

If you are asking, will it add "cool" new functionality (like spelling cow, or something silly like that), then the answer is no. This was a routine patch released by the makers of phpbb. It fixes bugs, holes, and things that make the forum crash.

Sure... but by doing so you risk the possibility of my finger slipping and hitting the BAN key :)

Not normally, but stu probably has some kind of preset key programmed in.

Sorry, but you need to know each one of our PHPSESSIDs in order for that to work properly.

I always have to log in twice before it actually logs me in. The first time, it just re-directs me back to the main page.

Always? Hm, weird, because it only happened to me once after the update. Though i think I've only logged in once since the update, so I'm not sure.

This has started to happen to me, too. I always just click log in again, then when I start to type my name, it pops up under the blank. I click on that, which puts my name and password up, and then I click the button, and then I'm logged on.

I'm having the same problem. Furthermore, when I do get logged in, I get logged out a few minutes later. I've of course tried reopening my browser, clearing cookies, etc. Is this still an issue for anyone else, or should we all point and laugh at me and my crappy browser? :(

Are those of you having problems clicking the "log me in automatically after each visit" checkbox? If not, maybe that could possibly help, but other than that I don't know. Maybe there's a browser thing going on - when I sign with the AOL browser (which is rarely anymore) it'll log me off when I return back to the main page from a certain section, but most of the time I'm on Mozilla and I don't get any problems there. So I'm not really sure.

How do those boxes work? If I clicked it on both of my Compys, what would happen?

Yeah, I just noticed today it was the main page logging me out. Hurray (hooray?) jump-to dropdown list! And yeah, my home compy's got ancient, ancient AOL 6.0, not to mention Windows ME, but heck, it's free (don't ask me how). As for the computers at school, well, I haven't checked since Thursday (when it turns out the System was Down), but hopefully I haven't been on the forums so much that it's been blocked. Oops. :P

And assuming you don't log in to both computers at the same time, it should be fine. All it does is put a cookie on your computer that makes it remember you every time you go back to the site; hence, no more logins evah. Although, I suppose you could use both computers at the same time; just expect to get a lot of those "You cannot make a new post so soon after your last" or whatever dealies.

Semicolons!

The cookie expires after thirty days, so you'll have to log in at least that often.

ME?? Windows ME??~????!?!?!?!

ME was released in June of 2000. If you follow Moore's Law (technology doubles every 18 months, it's actually fairly accurate), consider how outdated your operating system is...

June 2000 was 66 months ago, that means roughly 3.667 doublings of performance. That is over 12 (almost 13) times below what technology is at now. (2^3.667 ~ 12.7)

At least you aren't using Windows 95. That's over 125 months old... roughly 7 doublings ago. Almost 128 times below current technology.

These are just estimates (and in general not too accurate when it comes to software). But the general idea has some validity to it. Arguing software performance vs hardware performance is tricky. But if you were to consider the abilities and security of two pieces of software, then you could draw some correlations between the two. Check out:

Ugh

Regarding the wikipedia article, I subscribe to both schools of thought. A: Windows IS insecure. B: Windows (proportionally speaking) doesn't get attacked any more than other OS's. You just take a chance of getting your system compromised whenever you connect it to the outside world. No computer connected to the internet is totally secure.

Security is why I used 98 up until August. Nobody bothered 98 (because nobody in their right mind would use it).
