This was unexpected. Although The Cheat's 'costume' looked kinda vague (more vague than his Halloween 2000 one) and the thread appeared to be wrapped around his... cheek?, I could tell what he's supposed to be. He nailed it when he was dressed as the Lorax the last year back. I wonder how much time was spent on the whole thing. It's the humor that still pleases everyone, I suppose.

The way Strong Mad moved was very funny, no question.

Alas, I never did see A Christmas Story, and I can never tell what Homestar is supposed to be on the first try. He sure is good at tricky costumes.

Well, I doubt it. It's the holidays, they're on a break from whatever else they are doing. They didn't make a Halloween cartoon because they were too busy, and now that they have a bit of spare time, they've done this. Once next year begins, they'll be back to their other projects, and the haitus will resume.

I hope I'm wrong, I really do. I just don't want to get my hopes up. I'm hoping there will be at least one more update before they get back into whatever else they were doing (possibly a happy new year short?)

As for this toon, it was ok. I laughed a bit, but I have to take a point off because I didn't really get many of the references. Although I have to add a point because it's so exciting to have another new toon. 4/5 it is!

I think I managed to recognize everyone but Coach Z (up until he made that wonderfully awful idea pun) and Homestar (until I noticed the Poopsmith, I though he was a character from Santa Claus Conquers the Martians). Nice to see the Brothers Chaps throwing their fans a bone as an apology for missing Halloween.

Well, I guess this is confirmation that they're back. I was quite surprised to see Homsar left out - I wonder if it was on purpose due to what happened in the last toon, but it might have been a complete accident!

Well, it might have something to do with the fact that he is usually accessed as an Easter egg and then is seen at the end of the toon. But if you don't access the egg, he doesn't appear. That might have something to do with this.

What a pleasant surprise! I thought this was great and thoroughly enjoyed new content twice in as many week.

This forum never disappoints with the complaining though. Even amidst tons of posts of joy or surprise for there being new toons there's the ever present cries of "but it's not enough", "it's about time, they still owe use", "it's not good because I don't get the references", and "it's a cop out". It must be exhausting being that negative and pessimistic all the time.

You don't have to love everything they do or even be happy that they've been gone so long but just take it for what it is and enjoy the fact that you just got two new (very awesome) cartoons when just a week ago you had expected to see zero new cartoons this month. Unless you would have preferred zero updates, I don't see what there is to whine about.

To everyone else, rock rock on.

But overall, It was a great way for them to make up for missing halloween

Not getting the references is not being "negative and pessimistic." It's a perfectly legitimate reason for someone to not enjoy the cartoon. The entire premise of the cartoon relies on the viewer understanding the references: if you don't get them, you aren't going to get the cartoon. Simple as that.

Note: I didn't get some of the references, but still thought it was pretty good.

I'll give you a slight concession with that one but would still ask

1) "You do know we have a wiki, right?" I get that it's not as funny if you don't immediately get a reference but HSR references have always been old, obscure and not mainstream. Almost every reference in this toon is 20 years old, as a majority of the other Ween toons have been. I'm sure the younger viewers haven't gotten a lot of the other references in the past without looking them up, I still have to refer to the wiki every now and then to figure something out. I just don't buy that you can't enjoy the toon without knowing everything from the start.

I didn't get 2 or 3 things in the beginning but I looked it up and watched it again and then saw what they were going for. Honestly, how many people are going to know a reference from a crappy Flaming Lips movie right off the bat? Once you find out what they were going for you can at least see the humor.

2) I still think it is being a bit negative/pessimistic. Would you rather have a brand new cartoon in which you might have to look up a few references to fully get the humor or would you rather have what you expected to get this month: absolutely nothing? It just seems a little backwards, but that may just be me.

And now I've rambled for far too long about stuff that just isn't important, I'm off to watch this toon again
