I've just been listening to Galvanize by The Chemical Brothers and immediately started thinking about No Hands on Deck! for obvious reason. Since it is one of my favourite cartoons, I launched it immediately, though I was too lazy to pause the music. And somehow, although not perfectly, the music fitted. At times the cartoon's music gets in the way, but otherwise it's pretty cool combination.
I've experimented with it a little and found that it's best to play the song, wait for the initial sound effect to begin and mash refresh to start the toon - when done correctly, the sound effect should perfectly match the "loadinate" sign and the music proper will start exactly when the toon starts.
Some parts sound especially good combined with the music, here are some of them:
- The whole initial dialogue of Homestar and Marzi is exactly in the rythm
- Homestar's line "I'm building me a deck" perfectly covers the song's lyric "Don't hold back"
- Bub's dance fits the style of the song perfectly
- The montage of Homestar building the deck fits exactly into a quiet part of the song
- If you launch the easter egg right after the toon ends (maybe a little later), Strong Mad's "Me too!" fits exactly with the music.
I was using the album version of the song, though. The
music video version is a bit different and possibly even has slightly different pacing, so the music fits in other places than the album version, and of course, the video has a worse quality of sound. I have a feeling the albim version fits better, but that might be only becasue that's the one I tried first.
Anyway, give it a try...
