In TGS, does anyone else think that some of the characters in cannot be voiced by Strong Bad because it doesn't sound like him? Just listen to the College Boys that they meet. |

I think that the fact that the same person who voices Strong Bad voices the Teen Girl Squad says enough. If Matt can range his voice so greatly, who's to say that Strong Bad cannot? But I'm sure that Matt edits his voice for certain characters in an audio program, anyway. Like the college boys. But it wouldn't be as funny if everyone in Teen Girl Squad sounded the same. So I don't think it really matters either way, as long as the toon is at its best. |

They do sound kinda the same, just higher pitched. |

Well the voices in TGS are much more limited than those in the main site anyway. I think it's feasible. |

And don't forget that The Cheat manages to do the voicest for the PbtC stuff. If he can do that, I'm sure Strong Bad could muster some Olda Boys. |

If Matt can do SB and Coach Z, not to mention all the other main characters except for Missy, then I'm sure he can do everybody in TGS as well

Anybody that can do Strong Bad's voice perfectly, can do the TGS characters'. Since the only person is Matt (and Strong Bad), well, there ya go... |

Has it ever been stated that The Cheat actually does the voices for the PbtC toons? I've always figured that Strong Sad helps him out. Mike has filled in as SS when Matt's voice wasn't up to it on a e-mail or 2, and whenever SS appears in a PbtC toon, he sounds far more like himself than any of the other characters. And they collaborated on "Experimental Film". As for TGS, all the voices are clearly based on Strong Bad's, IMO. |

I think I saw in an interview that The Cheat does do the voices in the PBTC. And I think it goes without saying that Strong Bad does all the TGS voices. After all, it is his comic. |

In the "HSR universe", it's The Cheat, but in reality, Mike does the PBTC voices. |

That's impossible. How does The Cheat do the voices for his cartoons if he doesn't speak English?

I think The Cheat uses Text to Speech for his cartoon's voices. The voices are all flat and everything. |

I never would have thought of it that way, and that actually does make a lot of sense. I will say one thing, though - the voices for PBTC Coach Z and Strong Sad seem pretty close to the real deal, enough that those two could have made 'guest appearances'. I find it easy to buy into that theory considering those two were the characters The Cheat collaborated with on videos (remember The Experimental Film and The Hip Hop Dance?) and that may not be a coincidence. |

If I had to guess, I'm going to say The Cheat records voice samples of people (like when they don't know; not coming up to teh computer and speaking into the mic) and tries to combine them into new words. I have a speech from a principal from my old school, and right in front of my friends, I manipulated the sound file to make him say some.....bad stuff! Anyways, it seems we're off the question. It's about Strong Bad. Most likely Matt C. can very easily do those other voices, but the question is- is Stong Bah the one doing those particular voices? It really doesn't sound like SB for the Olda Boys, Mr. Pitters, and one of my favorite moments in #9- the vulture going "Ain't no teen girl" When he does impressions of others (impression of KOT, for instance), there's still that gruffness to SB's voice that I don't think we can get rid of. If it's not Strong Bad, then who is it? It's meant to be abstract/arbitrary if you ask me, but definitely not Strong Bad. |

![]() It's been established in several interviews with TBC that The Cheat does all of the voices for his cartoons. |

i don't think the method of the cheat's getting of voices is supposed to be that important. But what i've noticed is that there are 3 voices in TGS: regular TGS voice(variation-LPgirl), Teenboy voice(variation-intercom) and strongbad's regular voice. But that's a funny concept that matt does. Changing his voice, then changing his voice to sound like someone who changed their voice ei: KOT in some marzipan answering machine and SB all the time. EDIT: oh and i guess some extras, such as wave o' babies and such. |

Actually, there are 5 voices. 1- general girls' voice ("SOO GOOD!" 2- general boys' voice (I miss video games" "I miss my mom") 3- sci-fi Greg's voice ("2-handed +3 broad sword") 4- Strong Bad's voice.("GRAGHH! RAGH! Uh, he-he died somehow.") 5- Intercom/Mrs so-and-soerson (" And lunch today will be a breadtangle of pizza" "You li'l brats best shut yer yaps!") |

The second vulture (Quite good, quite good)... How would SB do that voice? No gruffness AT ALL. |

well if Strong Bad can layer his voice in techno, then he can pretty much do anything he wants. Although some seem weird, I don't think its that big of a deal that Strong Bad does all of them. Then again how do you know that he didn't stop doing the voices after issue 1? |

bah it doesn't matter what the voice is, it's not made to be understandable, i mean, come on, what else makes sense on homestar..not a lot, in case you don't know the answer...TBC doesn't try to make their cartoons physically correct, it's for our entertainment. i say BAH |

In relation to the Vultures, they wouldn't sound right if they had gruff and husky voices. Though I hasten to add, that later episodes of TGS have more refined, high-pitched girly voices than the first one from the email. |

I think my SB can do pretty much anything with his voice. For example, in Pumpkin Carvnival he somehow imitated Homestar's voice perfectly! Now that's talent!! EEEEH!!!!!!!!! I'M STILL SO PEPPY ABOUT SB BECAUSE OF THE EMAIL MODELING AND I KNOW THIS IS OFF-TOPIC BUT I DON'T CARE WAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the college boys you mean the ones that say "I miss my mom".."I miss video games"... Then yes, some characters do sound like SB couldn't do them. |

Hrmmm...it's a strange argument. Although keep in mind that it's a cartoon where some characters pick up things with no arms. If you look too much into it (PbTC Discussion) your brain ends up hurting. |

Also, keep in mind that Matt does all the H*R voices (besides Marzipan). It doesn't really seem possible that Homestar and Strong Bad can come out of the same guy, but it is possible. Probable, even! I'm just saying that if Matt can do 'em all (including the college boys), why can't Strong Bad? |

I'm just saying that if Matt can do 'em all (including the college boys), why can't Strong Bad? Makes sense to me. I mean, I can do most of the voices, with the exception of Strong Sad. I have a problem using that part of my throat to speak. If I can do it, then surely he can. Thank you, Cleveland. |

| Post subject: | WARNING: big nerdy words in this post |
This here is right up my street. I work in minority language development, and the first thing that I was taught was how to recoignise vocal intonation. Well, in my semi-expert opinion, I think Strong Bad is definately the voice of the college boys. There's why: Strong Bad's regular voice is of the *tongue-body* persuasion - meaning he has a harsh, gutteral voice. The voice of the college boys is *laryngopharyngealised* - harsh, whispery, creaky. These are interchangeable - by manipulating the movement of the jaw. So, for Matt Chappers to go from Strong Bad's voice (to do that he compresses his larynx) to the college boys, all he has to is lock his jaw in place, and not open his mouth very wide when speaking. But the harsh Strong Bad element of his voice is the same. |
