I guess The Cheat had a contract with a bowling alley. Turn off your cell phone & bowl!

It's definitely one of the best Puppet shorts they've done yet, though I do have soft spots for the Decemberween Easter Egg (Homestar playing Santa to a little girl has to be funny no matter what), the Puppet Jams (especially Tropical Lazor Beams and Vitamins/Celebrities "Hey Homestar, I hear you have the EXACT SAME song for us."), and the Halloween easter egg ("SEWIOUSLY! YOU CAN'T BE SEWIOUS! THAT BALL WAS ON THE LINE!").

Todayborday is Labor Day has to be one of the most amazingly quotable things ever. Or at least more quotable than "Nice upchuck, Benedetto"

There were at least 4 easter eggs, with the four eastereggs I've seen located at the end of the toon. 4 different popcorn kernals lead to 4 different easter eggs.

I found 5:

1. Split (kinda gross).
2. Spare
3. Hit 'em.
4. It's still your turn (turn off the cell phone).
5. Double Gutter.

Five. There are five. And they're all hidden amongst the popcorn. Yay.

Anyways, I thought this was hilarious. That song will remain in my head until...forever.

Personally, I was glad to see that Benedetto had not perished and had gained puppethood...There's something very endearing about that popcorn popper...

Just thought I'd let you know one way of getting the toons earlier, without trying random file names. On our computer, We have Mozilla, Firefox, and Internet Explorer. Sometimes it'll be on Internet Explorer, but not Mozilla or Firefox until later in the day. And then other Mondays it's vice-versa. So if you download different browsers, Chances are one of them will have the new update earlier than you'd usually get it. I don't know why this works, but it works for me.

That's not really how it works. Usually it's one browser that gets the update first, then the others are later. You don't get an update earlier by using a different browser. You just have to tell some browsers to look for an update; they don't look for a new version of the page automatically.

It was funny (the eggs ESPECIALLY), but I was a little weirded out by one thing.

The combined puppet/animation. In the animated toons, since Homestar doesn't have arms, if he is "holding" something, it just floats in front of him. You can do this in animation since it's not real. In the puppet show though, they couldn't make his big spoon/stick float in front of him, so it appears they just added it via animation. Something about that combo really sucked my focus away from the actual content...

But all in all still a good laugh.

Yeah, I also noticed that it seemed a little unnatural. The trouble is that while Homestar moved around a little, the spoon stayed perfectly still, which looks hokey. Since the puppeteer moved around a little, so should have the spoon.

If I had to say something about this (apart from "'the heck's a labour day?") I'd say that this was brilliant in respects that we saw a whole lot of laffs in this. From Homestar eating the "upchuck" to the repetitive-but-gets-funnier-each-time-you-hear-it song. I loved all of The Cheat's Easter Eggs. That "split" one I'm surprised they got away with. It's like something HTF would do. Not that HTF is bad, HTF is GOOD. It's just a little out of character for Homestar.

I'm guessing that HTF is an acronym for Happy Tree Friends (an incredibly violent web cartoon).

Actually, I didn't pick up on the somewhat gruesome nature of the Split. Whether it's because it was in The Cheat's silly animation style, or because I had been distracted by the awesome song I don't know, but yeah, it does seem a bit violent for H*R.

You guys were correct. That one about Split is nasty. But this one gets my best score: A Golden T+++

I'm not a big fan of the puppet stuff, but this was pretty good. I loved the Labor Day song and the return of Bendetto.

I think we missed something interesting in the beginning; the Cheat's iMac "Tangernine Dream". That was a live image. Does this mean that the Cheat's computer is real (as is Bennindeto) and owned by TBC? Creepy.

Yeah. Orange imacs have been around for quite a while. TBC didn't make up that computer. Though, in Puppet Time, you get to see the Compy in real life...

Did :hr: refer to Frank Benedetto as "Cornstar Private Benedetto" in this puppemation? That is what I hear after repeating the clip multiple times at a high volume.

Oh, I know about the colored iMacs (may they rest in peace). You are speaking to the biggest Apple nerd this side of Place. I'm just saying that it's neat to know that the Cheat's computer isn't just based on an image of the iMac G3, but an actual machine TBC has. It's neat to know.

And: I don't think that's an actual 386-based machine; just an old computer monitor. They probably have one, though. They certainly have an Apple ][.

albertabeef- I think it was Homestar Private Bennedetto. After all, he is part of the Homestarmy.

Thanks for the replies a Teh Experimental Film and Another Fan. This just shows how an excited Homestar is difficult to follow sometimes.

I reluctant to give up Cornstar after repeating the clip so many times as I think it is quite a clever name. Perhaps I have brainwashed myself! However, later in the clip, Homestar does use the corn prefix again. When Benedetto upchucks, Homestar asks him if he got ahold of some bad “cornstyle” rations, which leads me to believe that Homestar did refer to him as Cornstar.

Homestar says "corn-style" both times. He never says "cornstar".

I'm not a big fan of any of the Puppet Style stuff, but this is one of the better ones. The song was stuck in my head for a long time.

Todaybor is labor daybor, todaybor is labor daybor, todaybor is labor daybor, todaybor is labor daybor, todaybor is labor daybor, todaybor is labor daybor, todaybor is labor daybor, todaybor is labor daybor!
