Telepathy and telekinesis are two very different things. I said both, though. Whichever one they need for the joke.

To prevent threads getting off topic.

Invisable hands.Hands come from top of shirt.

They're actually really smart, they just pretend to be dumb.

Ghost arms. You can't see them and things go through them.

Neither explanation really works. With telekinesis, you have to deal with the question of why Homestar's coat appears to have an arm-shaped... thing in it in DNA Evidence (Marzipan's handprint in Yello Dello seems less significant to me since it was before TBC had really developed their style). Invisible arms seems to me to have even more problems. First, there's the lack of sleeves. Then there's the fact that Homestar is constantly referred to as having no arms: By Strong Mad in Strong Bad is a Bad Guy, by Strong Bad in The Interview, by TBC in the title of the game Armless invaders and even by Homestar himself in love poems. Also the little-mentioned fact that Homestar is able to hold three things at once in time capsule (a Freshley's box, the box top and a gross old wig).

Of course, part of this is the simple fact that in sense, it really doesn't matter. The rule is simply that characters lacking visible arms can pick things up just as if they did have arms. TBC are not likely concerned with keeping any consistent explanation of how.

Still, since I do enjoy coming up theories anyway, I have come up with one that hybridizes the two explanations: Homestar and other armless characters have two arm-length, cylindrical telekinetic fields extending from either side of their upper bodies. Since it's a field, not an appendage, there's no need for sleeves (the field passes through clothing if need be), but the force field can manipulate objects rather like an arm and take up space (including filling a sleeve if one is available, as in DNA Evidence). I figure it must be able to divide itself in two if the need arise, which explains why Homestar was able to hold three objects at once in time capsule.

There. An explanation that attempts to be all-encompassing and likely overanalyzes a bit. Maybe I should have just stuck with my first answer.

This might be the best attempt at an explanation for this that I've seen. I've always thought that it's been invisible arms of some type, but it's never bothered me that there are no sleeves or arm holes (probably because that would look pretty silly), and so I've just accepted that the arms can go through their clothes somehow. My best example that there is something there (and that the other characters can even see it, when comedically necessary) is the time Homestar flipped off Strong Bad.

I think that Homestar, Marzipan and the KOT all have invisible arms, but that Homsar has both.
