It seems like TBC are turning Strong Sad happier and happier over time. He seems to me more like a smart character (which should be Pom Pom's role) and less depressed and abused. He seems too... normal now. It's unnerving. I like our antisocial round friend, and Free Country USA should not have a normal character!

Anyone else see this?

... normal? He seems more emo/goth/abnormal to me rather then 'normal'. And that hasn't changed. Even in the most recent sbemail, he was shaking for the opportunity to talk about love poems. LOVE POEMS. SHAKING. HE DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A LOVE LIFE. If that isn't depressing, I don't know what is. ;)

Isn't this like the 2nd "is strong sad changing lol" thread?

I don't think any of the Homestar characters will really change as fundamentally as that. And I certainly don't think that Strong Sad is becoming "normal", or at least not beyond playing the "straight man" from time to time.

I agree that he's not as sad as he used to be, but that's been happening for a long time. Even in crying, it was unusual to see him sad like he was in that toon. I think he's funnier and a more interesting character this way.

For example.

Strong Sad's always going to be a bummer. Remember how much of a downer he was in "nightlife"?

I put "happier" mostly because he's gaining a lot more confidence in himself. Yes, he'll probably always be the bummer but he is definitely evolving to a more rounded character with ups and downs. Not just downs

Haha fat joke
But really, he's not getting any happier. In Somber Vacation, he did seem a lot more outgoing, but burying himself alive? The dampening? No way.

He's still as sad as usual. Less whiny, though.

He's less whiny, definitely, but not too much less sad. A little, though.

I wouldn't say happier - I'd say more two dimensional. It's like Strong Bad's evolution from the generic villain to the lovable rogue; in the same way Strong Sad's become less one-track-pony and more developed as a character.
If I pull a comparison out the air, Strong Sad is, say, the Charmy to Strobro's Knuckles.
Except Charmy is way more annoying. :P

Not even more two-dimensional, I think he's becoming more three-dimensional. I love that they gave him a starring role in the most recent short, and I think he's just becoming more real. The moments when he smiles and giggles are the most unnatural bits of him that we ever see, and he remains the emo-tastic Strong Sad we've come to know and love.

...he is becoming slightly less depressing - but I wouldn't call him normal just yet. He's a lot more likeable now-a-days then he used to be.
(he was my least favorite character when I first started watching way back when)

He makes a lot more jokes now, or at least that's why I see him as a bit happier.

to be honest i prefer his "your edge" styles, to his "Homestarloween" styles.
