My theory to the origin of Homestar Runner was that when Mike Chapman and some guy named Craig made the first childrens´book, the book was trying to make Homestar Runner an all American mascot of the 1996 summer Olympics. Of course it was Izzy who became the mascot of that Olympics. That kind of explains why Homestar uses the American colors. Oh, and the book was entitled "the strongest man in the world contest" and remember that Homestar was a "terrific athlete". Coincidence, I think not! :hr:

This is a better theory than your "Cheat is French" theory. But I don't think you're right. Homestar is just a creation of TBC when they were bored.

It would explain why the Cheat is Izzy in the olympics.

I think they made it during the 1996 Olympics, actually, so they may have been inspired by Izzy.

I doubt it. They even admitted in the many interviews they have been in that he was created out of boredom. Unless they kept it a secret... *scary organ music plays in backround)

Actaully a solid theory. But I'm gonna have to go with a "no" on this. If it were true, than wouldn't TBC have mentioned it by now? Its not like there's any good reason they would've kept it secret this whole time- epsecially considering all the interviews and public appearances lately. Why wouldn't they have mentioned it yet?

No, I agree with Homestar. He was created because of "a lot of boredom".

If I saw a life size Izzy walking toward me, I would run for my life. He just doesn't look...natural.

The theory of Homestar as Olympic mascot is probably not true, but it does make sense. Homestar has that mascot-type look to him (and he's done extensive work in that field, both as the CGNU Dumple and as Poppy the Tire).

The Olympics uses a different mascot each time, right? Maybe TBC could submit Homestar Runner as a candidate for mascot for the next Olympics! That would be phenomenally cool, I think, although there would be a bit of unfortunate commercialization going on. But it would be a heck of an advertisement for the site.

There's no freaking way. He was made during the Olympics, therefore it was too late to make him the mascot. Now, the Cheat being French sounds like an interesting theory...

Maybe the Olympics just had a little influence on them. Maybe because of the Olypmics they had sports on the brain and decided to make a book about a sport-related contest.

My friends was about the size of your average 6 or 7 year old. Pretty darned big. I was nine when I first saw it.

[backontopic]I think it would be cool if they made Homestar an olympic mascot. Though I thought it had to be agreed on by all countries, so a super american one would be kinda dumb to represent everybody.[/backontopic]

Homestar has plenty of international flair. He's travelled extensively through Far-Off Lands, Prance, Dortugal, Potamia, Strongbadia, maybe the Moon...

Quick! Somebody make a picture of Homestar with the Olympic Rings on his shirt! 'Cause I'm not gonna do it...

:p

To carry out my theory. I've discovered that TBC brought back Homestar Runner in a Flash website-like form, which of course it became known as http://www.homestarrunner.com. Guess what, the website began around the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics. Could this be another attempt to idolize Homestar as a mascot? :hr:

Well, it could have been their attempt to get rid of the local mascot favorite, Arsey the Big Arsed Wombat. This was on a local TV show in Australia, replaced nowadays by a farming show, and had people like Cathy Freeman pose for them. I swear to god I read about it in TIME five years ago.

Cool picture, dude! All we need now is a picture with Homestar running with the Olympics torch.

I don't know about him being a 1996 or 2000 mascot, but I'm all for him being the 2008 mascot. TBC honored Izzy though in 3 Times Halloween Funjob, so maybe they were alluding to Homestar's mascot roots.

I kinda think the Olympics influenced Homestar's character. So... I'll vote. *goes to vote*

Hey, remember the external link of 3 Times Halloween Funjob, well this is a quote from Homestar himself, when you click on The Cheat in the Izzy costume.

:hr: : Hey, The Cheat... Um... Dress up as something different next year. Thing's creeping me out.

I think the reason why the Izzy costume was creeping Homestar out was because he was the one meant to be the mascot for that Olympics game.

The name was Fatso the Fat Arsed Wombat actually (excuse the swearing). I'm a-pretty-pretty sure that it wasn't replaced by a farm show either...

I think that's actually possible. But we can't guarantee it or anything.
