There used to be an old (and really horable) NES game called 'Action 52'. It came with this comic book attached. http://www.epicgaming.uk.ro/games/nes_action52/comic_highqual.jpg It might just be me, but that looks a lot like part of the insperation for the Cheet Commandos. Any one agree with me, or do you think it's a strech? |

You know, at first I was going to say that it was too much of a stretch, but considering the whole "Action Figures Coming to a Toy Store Near You" thing at the end, and the fact that they even have their own "catch phrase," I could see it as a valid possibility. Either way, it's interesting, (and pretty funny! I mean, how much of a rip of TMNT can you get? )

<steps onto soap box> Cruddy GI Joe cartoons? Cruddy!?!? CRUDDY!?!?! Heresy, I say. Pure heresy!! Dude, I grew up on those cartoons and they STILL rock! They're way better than any of the crap the kids have to watch nowadays. How many more of these mind numbing Japanese creature cartoons are we gonna have to endure? Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh!. Give me a break!!! <steps off soap box> tee-hee! ok. I feel better now

Notice, however, how the GI Joe cartoons try to act like an anime. The animation style is like americans trying to draw like japanese... plus they're just downright pathetic. "I'm a pirate! Arr!" |

not sure what GI Joe toons you're watching... The GI Joe toons I speak of were drawn well before we knew what anime was in America.... I think. The closest thing to Anime I can recall during that time is Thundercats, which rocked.... I don't consider all that stuff like Pokemon, Inuyasha, Trigun, etc to be anime. When I think of Anime, I think of Fist of the North Star. |

Thankfully, I've never seen them.... I would probably lose faith in mankind... Where is it shown and when? Do they ruin it the way the CGI transformers did for that franchise? |

I hope you don't mean to imply that Americans can't do proper manga/anime. - Kef |

Sorry to dig up an old thread but it's obvious to anyone that grew up in the 80's that it's totally inspired by G.I. Joe. The Blue Lazer Commander even sounds like Cobra Commander! Btw, both G.I. Joe, Transformers and many of those 80's cartoons were storyboarded/developed in the US by Sunbow and animated in Japan by Toei. Animation outsourcing was and still is a common practice so if they have a hint of the anime look, you shouldn't be surprised since the bulk of the animation was done overseas. |

Yeah, and the animation style of Manga/Anime didn't really become widespread until later, like in the 90's. Look at early 80's anime like Robotech, Transor Z, and Voltron. The style is nowhere near as developed as Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Inuyasha, etc. That Cheatah Men reminded me of Thundercats. Notice the buzzard dude. Didn't Thundercats have one of those? And what about that Rhino dude. He looks just like that dude from TMNT. |

That thing scareded the heck outta me. Especially once you've played the game, which has almost absolutely nothing to do with this special comic. I asked my local toy store about the action figures. They gave me strange looks.

I think this is really just an ad for the toys... I remember seeing "comic books" that were ads for toys, but it was obvious that it was an ad. With GI Joe though, the toy manufacturers were trying to hide the fact that it really was an ad by adding "plots" and producing it as a real Saturday morning cartoon. |

Anime aired on American channels is either stupid, pointless, crappy, or really really boring. Sailor Moon was cool, though. The anime in Japan is more varied and it's not all about -whacks face with answering machine on each word- pokemon! Yugioh! Dragonball Z! Who cares about that junk? -huff- |

Yo, those shows are awesome! I'd rather you watch 'em the whole way through before giving them a bad rating. |
