I like Pom Pom as well.. but my favorite character is... HOMESTAR!! So he may be used a lot.. but I wish he was used even more!

Probably because she sucks. I don't know about the rest of you, but I can't stand her.

Same here on Homestar's walking sound. And same on Homestar allthough he shares that place with Strong Bad as far as I go. They tend to have an interesting effect on oneanother too. :)

Still... Homestar DOES show up sufficiently. I mean.. I won't ever complain when he shows up, no matter how often, but I don't feel he's not used enough.

Because a little of her goes a long way? I liked her in 'Where's the Cheat?' though. And I kinda liked her in the Luau...

'Noooohooo! It was me! Homestar Runner!!!

'You're Homestar JUNIOR, remember?'

But still, generally, a little of her goes a long way. Although I wouldn't mind more of her answering machines. Some of the stuff on there is pretty good. Such as Homestars Valentine's message or when he told her he'd break up with her then came to the conclusion he misheard that message she left for him.

I love the answer machine messages! And for your viewing pleasure, here is Strong Lad's top five!

5. Strong Mad asking the machine if it's refridgerator was running. That guy is just the best.
4. Coach Z's drunken proposal. Funny because it's true.
3. Homestar making a very poorly thrown-together tape of Marzipan's messages. I mean, he even did himself in the wrong type of voice!
2. Strong Bad impersonating the KoT, and vice versa. Mr. Chapman really pushed the limit there. But in a good way.
And my personal favourite....
1. Homestar's rendition of "Back in Black." Even my younger brother enjoyed that, and he's not even a H*R fan!

With all these in mind, how can you think that Marzipan sucks? Without her, we don't have all these comedy gems!

Yeah, that one is great. I also like Homestar's attempts at doing a prank call under the guidance of Strong Bad.

Hello Marzipan, this is Homestar! (Paaaah!)
Oh, Hello Marzipan, this is Strong Bad (PAAAH!!!)

4. Coach Z's drunken proposal. Funny because it's true.

Seems like most of the cast is interested in her. Although personally aside from Coach Z (who is alot older then she is by the way, judging from the Strong Bad stand up comedy e-mail) and Strong Sad I don't really buy it... I mean, I can't see Bubs or Strong Mad going for her personally, but that might just be me!

That one might just be my favorite... Both the actual messages and the ones Homestar made.

'So the best thing for you to do is to go back... and not to listen to that message. Oh wait... in fact... *Does a sound like a tape getting reversed* There.. I think I reversed it!

Although funny, it kinda underwhelmed me. I mean... The King of Town doing Strong Bad was pretty well done (I mean, its clearly him, but you can tell he is trying to imitate Strong Bad) and what they say is pretty funny, but Strong Bad doing the King...eh.. Strong Bad never really tries to disguise his voice and I don't feel he did when trying to talk like the king. It was just Strong Bad saying doodiddyhoodiddyhoo. Which admittedly was funny, but not that impressive when it comes to voice acting. I mean, its just the regular Strong Bad voice! In fact, judging from Strong Bad's 'Impression' e-mail, I get the strong suspicion he either can't or won't do voices.

This particular one DOES have one of my favorite quotes though!

'I gotta go eat a bunch of crap now! Cause I'm the king of town!'

Homestar trying to sing is just hilarious, period. ;)
I mean... that bit where he dances around and sings a circus theme when you give him peanuts in that halloween cartoon sounds hilarious as well to me.

Personally I don't think she sucks, but I think people who do think so base it mainly on when she is... well being herself! I mean her answering machine is mostly other people calling her, not her.

Now, I like her in some cartoons, and I also thought it was funny, when she knocked on Homestars door with her head in that radish cartoon. But she can be, as Homestar accidentally put it;

'Kinda annoying, and overbearing, and kind of a big hippie... and uhm.. eh.. Tuu duu duuu!!! Eh.. The number you have reached is... not.. your... boyfriend.. calling you... Duh Duh Duh Duh Duuuuh! *This is a dial-toooone* Duuuuuuh!'

So I guess that would be why some can't stand her.

Personally I think she is a vital cast member, but given the size of the cast the only cast members I personally don't consider vital would be the KoT and Poopsmith. And maybe, given he is hardly used anymore Pom Pom (As much as I'd like to see him used again, his being underused does make him a less vital cast member, he already hardly shows up, so I don't expect him to show much anymore.) Not so much that I have anything against any them, but I'd consider the other nine chars, including Marzipan, more important.

If not by themselves then as foil for guys like Strong Bad and Homestar.

Actually on a sidenote though, and amusingly enough, back to the subject of the thread.

The aforementioned Poopsmith is kind of underused too. Maybe they should do something with him besides his regular 'shoveling crap' shtick. A character who goes bobbing for pumpkins ought to have potential. :)

Do note that she's only responsible for those due to the fact she's the one who has the answering machine feature. All the actual humor is generated by all the other characters, not her, and honestly, any character could have an answering machine and have the other characters do funny stuff, so you can't attribute the humor to her. Another female character who is more bearable could have the exact same results with the instances you named. I stil can't stand her and I welcome the addition of another female character if it means we don't have to listen to Marzipan being an overbearing hippy all day.

Wrong. That should be at number one.

You have listened to Marzipan's Answering Machine 3, right? Both Bubs and Strong Mad come on to her in that one. That's the consequence of being the only girl...

Yeah, thats the one I meant. I just couldn't really see Bubs or Strong Mad going for her, it just seemed kinda weird to me. Although I admit Strong Mads 'Marry me! Marrry meeeeee!' Was quite funny. I guess I just don't feel either of them has a personality that would make Marzipan appealing to them as a girlfriend. She just doesn't seem their type.

But I guess when there is only one person to pick from... On the other hand, Pom Pom manages to have a whole bunch of girlfriends.

Also as for the addition of a female char... Eh.. As long as its not Strong Bads girlfriend. I mean, that would kind of diminish Strong Bads strongbadness. Actually, not sure she should be anybodies girlfriend... I mean, part of SB's personality is that he pretends to be really hot with the ladies whilst in fact, he doesn't know a thing about them, and doesn't know any. I mean, its used in many e-mails as well as the valentine's days answering machine.

And Strong Sad.. well he'd be less sad then! Coach Z already has this crush on Marzipan, that works well on the answering machines. And I honestly couldn't see what it would add to Strong Mad or Bubs. Pom Pom and Homestar already have girlfriends (And as mentioned, in the plural in Pom Pom's case.) And I certainly don't see the KoT or the Poopsmith as being chickmagnets, unless the polarity is reversed or something... So that leaves what? Homsar and The Cheat?

Oh I dunno.. maybe The Cheat could have a girlfriend... then maybe you'd get a whole bunch of little baby The Cheat's. That'd be kind of cute... But then again thats more something for a what-if I think.

It would be funny though if Homsar got a really attractive, really smart girlfriend, but I personally feel that would only work as a one-shot joke.. Or a two-shot joke at best.

Bubs, Coach Z, SB and SM seem to want her. I found that answering machine very funny, actually; I like the idea of all the other guys struggling over Marzipan while Homestar is totally oblivious. I'm not sure about Strong Sad - although he seems to like her, he's never really been open about it.

The Cheat and Pom Pom clearly aren't interested in her - Pom Pom has several girlfriends, as you said. The Cheat did have an online romance with Great-Looking Girl for a while, but he ended up tricking her.

As for the Poopsmith, he's such an enigma that we can't really tell. Maybe there is already a Mrs. Poopsmith to welcome him home. I wouldn't be surprised; he seems like a charismatic guy, even if he does have a crappy job.

Uhm.. Strong Bad doesn't want her. He only wanted her to want him! (I'm taking you are referring to the 'Marzipan' e-mail?)

It seemed to me he just wanted her to want him because of his ego, because that e-mail said she didn't like him, and of course he couldn't have people thinking that the resident girl didn't like him, especially since the e-mail also suggested he wasn't good with the ladies.

I don't think he is REALLY interested. Between the prank calls, the halloween eggings, the common stealing of her stuff, the organizing of the marshmellow roast during the luau and all those things, I'd say its a fairly safe bet he finds her about as annoying as he finds Homestar. :)

Nah, I think he does have a secret crush with Marzipan. He doesn't want anyone to know, with his huge ego, but I think it's clear from Marzipan (and, to a lesser extent, from Spring Cleaning) that he's attracted to her.

No, I'd have to say it's more of an acquired taste. When you're stuck with one kind of food for a long time, even if you don't like it, you'll grow accustomed to it.

Since Marzipan's the only girl out there, Strong Bad doesn't have a lotta options.

Uhm.. Pom Pom has a whole bunch of girlfriends that are not Marzipan. And Strong Bad apperently send alot of invitations to various ladies to come to a party which they then didn't come too.

No.. I don't think Strong Bad is interested in Marzipan at all.
The Marzipan e-mail just was about him convincing 'his friend Emily from Oh-kio' that Marzipan had a crush on HIM. Because he is so irresistable to the ladies in his own mind.

And the 'spring cleaning' doesn't show anything other then that he thought it was a stupid question. Or does it show he is really made of crap as well?

As far as I am concerned the only ones interested in Marzipan besides Homestar are Strong Sad and Coach Z, and maybe Bubs, although I personally think that bit was probably more him trying his luck then any deeper interest. Strong Mad, ditto as Bubs I guess. Again, I just can't see them seriously going for Marzipan, and if Pom Pom can have all these girlfriends its not as if Marzipan is the only choice. She's just the only female cast-member, not the only female in the world. :)

And only Coach Z and Strong Sad did anything that could be perceived as interest beyond that one answering machine.

So thats what I am sticking with, but feel free to disagree. Even though I might adjust my opinion on Bubs and Strong Mad, they'd have to explicitly show Strong Bad interested in her before I buy HIM having any interest.

I mean.. come on... how more ill-matched could they be? He doesn't like anything she does, is always mean to her in various ways and she doesn't like him either. He just thinks she should because he is such a ladies man, and she should recognize his awesomeness so that all know he is awesome. He doesn't actually want her. Just wants her to confirm what he wants to show to the world. That all the ladies want him!

But in fact we all know Homsar is the original ladies man.

It seems Strong Bad and Pom-Pom are friends because they were hanging out with eavh other in both "where's the Cheat" and the SB email that introduced "Double Deuce". However, I do think Pom-Pom and the Poopsmith are EXTREMELY underused.

the poopsmith is rarely seen, and he is always in the same spot with his shovel. he's not one that appeals much to me because in everything i see on homestar he really doesnt contribute much. there may be a few jokes about him, but he doesnt really do anything productive to the cartoons. i think they should have something sort of based on him and see if it works having him fit in a little more. cuz even tho he's part of the 12 main characters you can hardly call him "main".

I think Pom-pom and the poopsmith are the most underated characters
I can see why the poopsmith gets not much time on screen because the poop-shoveling joke just gets sad after a while.

Pom-Pom, The Poopsmith, and, to a lesser extent, The King of Town are the most underused characters, in my opinion.

It would be nice if TBC fleshed out Pom-Pom and The Poopsmith a bit more or gave us a little background information, especially with The Poopsmith. We don't really know much about him except that he works for The King of Town shoveling crap. It wouldn't hurt to use him in places other than the crap pile, like in the Halloween toons. Likewise, a Pom-Pom toon could expand upon Pom-Pom's quirks and flesh him out.

As for The King of Town, I think they just have to make him interact more with the other characters.

Pom Pom's been said a zillion times, but I have to agree. I mean, Pom Pom was originally one of the most important characters, being featured in the original book and some of the first Flash stuff. He certainly isn't as important now, and while I don't think he belongs in the spotlight, he's a fine supporting character.

I think he, like many of the others, was at his best during the Flashlight Storytelling With A Flashlight. Sure, he only bubbled and made lots of girls pop up, but it perfectly demonstrated an aspect of his personality. (I think that toon is the best one to introduce the main characters to a newcomer.)

And I have to agree about the King of Town -- he's underrepresented for sure, but his role is more of a niche than Pom Pom's, so he can stand to appear less often, though he's a bit overdue (it's nice to see him as Perducci but we could use just a bit more). Pom Pom could fit into anything but the King of Town has to be called for. The Poopsmith is definitely a niche role, so I don't think he's underused. He's just fine where he is. And I'm more likely to think Homsar is overused than underused...

Oh, I dunno... The King of Town as Perducci was something no one would have expected I think. ;)
And it was NOT him doing his regular eating shtick either!

So, who knows what they could do with the Poopsmith. ;)
I don't really think Homsar is over or under-used at the moment... Ever since I saw him show up in Themepark I've been feeling he's been used just right. Although I do think its better for him, generally, to appear in easter eggs then in the mails themselves.

Well, he rarely appears out in the open except in eggs...for instance in "theme park" we see only his legs and hear his voice (enough to make it clear it's Homsar but not quite a full "appearance"). And one of the last times we saw him, he was completely concealed in the Strong Sad costume and we hear only his voice. So he's kind of...half-secret. Or something. :P

Probably meant Homsar's walking sound. (The similarity of "Homestar" and "Homsar" was what created Homsar in the first place... ;))

It still counts as an appearance, even if you don't fully "see" him.

Right, but it's less of an appearance, so to speak.

Also, I thought about it a bit and I think I'm the most underused character. (And before anybody says I'm not a character: exactly! So put me a toon already! ;))

Heh, I just thought about it and I think Homeschool Winner might have been a prototypical Homsar. Not only do they have similar colors and a Homestar-like appearance, but the name "Homeschool Winner" suggests somebody just a little loopy to me. In a Homsar kinda way. We might be seeing Homeschool in all those eggs were it not for sbemail #2.
