Alright, my post count makes it obvious that I'm new here, so I don't know how tired certain threads are, but I didn't see a Coach Z thread on the first page, so I thought I give 'er a go.

Since the Lappy era, the characters (excluding Homsar who has lost his touch) have finally settled into their own and The Brothers Chaps have put the funniest possible personas on them.
Homestar is passive-aggressive, easily excitable, excessively eager and instantly reactionary. (I probably made that last word up)

The KoT has finally accepted that embracing the fact that he isn't/wasn't funny is very funny. Throw in a pinch of uncool and pathetic and you've got a hilarity.

Strong Sad has stopped being sad and entirely pathetic and is the cynical alternative pompous nerd he was always meant to be.

Strong Mad is almost cute in his stupidity and sincerity instead of just being angry.

The one or two joke wonders like The Poopsmith and PomPom are downplayed (which is excellent in my books)

Strong Bad, The Cheat and Bubs didn't change much...but did they need to?

This brings us to Coach Z. Easily the most underrated character on the site.

I think what Coach Z has evolved into has inspired the entire sketch revolution on the site. Bubs' increasingly creepy operations, the KoT's questionable existence and anything Cardgage is just so unbelievably sketchy that only the Coach Z could have steered the Bros Cs in that direction.

Although his rapping should become more prodominant again, Coach Z works best as less pathetic and coach-like and more suspicious and creepy. Breaking into Marzipan's house, his mother-like acts in Garage Sale and his obvious harboured anger and depression towards something traumatic in his life leave so much to the imagination that it brings a new level of comedy and depth to the site and characters.

I'm just so grossed out and amazed at Coach Z everytime he appears that he's one of the biggest sources of comedy on the site for me.

What do you guys think?

Do you read any of my now-essay-length post?

I'll leave you with some of Coach Z better, more recent moments off the top of my head.

"Yeah, you're a real MC....Master of Ceremonies!"

"What is this thing? Some kind of bounce thing?"

"Oh! Then I'm okay to say it!"

_ethos

"Too long, Clanky! Too long!"

It's your fault you have such a short attention span. Be quiet.

Yeah. Nice essay. Except for the fact that you're reading way too much into a simple cartoon. But yeah. The characters have changed, and Coach Z's creepiness is very funny. However, you might want to reconsider your views on Strong Bad not changing very much. Does he ever "challenge" Homestar anymore? That sort of stuff sort of went into his 1936 and 20X6 counterparts and just made Strong Bad this guy who thinks he's so cool.

Yeah, but that seems to be what we do best here. I mean, there's a huge freaking fan community devoted to H*R. I do like your style though Rexalative. This seems like a college style essay.

Meh, it was off the top of my head.

It was more observations than reading into things.
And in comparison Strong Bad has barely changed...only his voice.

I agree wit you man. I also think that :coachz: is one of the funniest characters on the site. A Jorb Well Done is one of my favourite Big Toons although I think that all the Big Toons are great!!!!

Reading way too deep into characters = WIN

Yeah. Coach Z is sketchy. Shetchy like whoa. And I love it on him. xD

A lot of the time Coach Z actually depresses me...I just feel really bad for the guy. Cartoon character or not, doesn't it seem like something REALLY bad happened to the guy? Maybe to make him so darn socially inept?

Great thoughts, at any rate. *Stops rambling*

I want to find out more about Coach Z too, although I wouldn't want the character to jump the shark and leave us with nothing left to find out. Then again, if things never change, they do tend to become stale somewhat. It's a tricky one.

Anyway, my highly unlikely theory about Coach Z is that, for some reason, he isn't speaking to his family any more. That whole thing with the disconnected phone in that holiday toon was him trying to simulate a proper Decemberween without being insane enough to hallucinate that his parents were actually sitting right there. Which is kind of sad, really. Also, I'm a little distressed/intrigued by the way he referred to his own mother as "hot" in the last Halloween toon. I mean, would you call your own mother "hot"? I don't know, maybe I'm just really, really uptight. But enough of my issues.

I feel like I replied to this, and then somehow my reply vanished.

But this is AMAAAAAAAZING. Very clever! And it makes a lot of sense. Coach Z is funny, but in kind of a "creepy old man" sort of way. XD

Marbles, your avy is too long. It's stretching the page.

I've sent out the warning. But people, please do not post just to tell someone that their sig/avatar is too large. Tell a mod instead, and we'll take care of it.
