I think we're just looking at splitting the vidyas again, but even if we split Media, we can keep internet-related junk (ie Webcomics, etc) in Off-Subject, if it's that big of an issue.

I'm on the fence, but leaning slightly towards the "why bother" side of the fence. We've got a subforum on the mod board, and it can be annoying when it says there's a new post, and it turns out to be just a spambot alert in the subforum

Why would the mod board need a subforum?

bawww.

But still, a Media subforum would make more sense than a Video Games section. We already have two forums dedicated to some form of gaming, why add a third?

But Media isn't really clogging OT at all. Yeah, one TV thread, two movies threads. That's pretty much it.

unless your defintion of media includes books and video games

If media didn't include Video games and Music and celebrities and crap like that, why would we be campaigning for a Media sub instead of just a Video Game sub?

Although I'm not so sure if we should count books as media...

Some of us are arguing for just a Vidya Subforum. I think my point was made up there with all the Vidyas threads I listed.

Plus, if we get a Video Game Subforum, we could split that giant Wii thread into individual threads about each game, which would make things a whole lot easier to follow.

You do know that a public discussion subforum would be completely different than the one we've got, right?

It's still a semi-valid argument, though. Basically what I'm getting at there is that it can be a bit misleading where the activity actually is inside the board. The system works now as it is, I don't see why there's such an interest to change it :-|

So what you're saying is... We should get rid of categories, and just have a whole bunch of threads.

YES Wait, maybe I've been confused this whole time. Are we talking about making Media an entirely separate section, akin to OSD or A&C, or is this a subforum within OSD?

^Yeah that's actually what I've been wondering too.

Quote:
Tips for cooking, threads about books, threads about clothing/shoes, threads about models, threads about women, uhh...Toys, food items, Weapons/knives/guns, ideas for businesses and stuff, skateboarding, biking, jumping, dieting, biking, hiking, a Newspeak thread, art, school, art school, stuff like that.

If people wanted to talk about cooking/biking/stuff nobody here does they'd do it already and hey guess what they don't

Well, nobody here really can talk about cooking since Didy left, and not a lot of things there fall into this forum's interests. This forum's interests are tv and movies and video games, that's why we're on a forum for a dumb animal cartoon.

So? If you come back to the forum and see "oh boy new posts in OSD" now, there's a possibility it's just someone saying "hay Disk I voted in the awards" or "hay here's my gamertag".

I think splitting video games would be a lot better than splitting all media. Why don't we try splitting all the video game threads now, and if the new subforum looks like it's going to die, we can add more and more media (like TV shows). If we get the Video Games out of OSD, then we won't have a bunch of "All Things Television", "Wii", "All Movies" threads. We can have seperate threads for say, Chowder and Wall-E in OSD, and threads on Mario Kart Wii, Grand Theft Auto IV, and Smash Bros in Video Games. I'd much rather see a bunch of threads than have to go through a bunch of threads in one giant "all things" thread.

There's nothing stopping them, but there's nothing really making them either.

Without vidyas all OT would be is the "what are you" threads.

Wait, We're not talking about one giant thread holding all of our media crap, we're talking about a dang subforum.

EDIT: It looks like this:

You missed my point.

Noid's arguing that OSD would be empty without Video Game Discussion, and I'm saying how all those large "Movies" and "TV" threads could be split into many.

It might be worth an experiment. We could leave the general TV and Movie topics, but then we'd just encourage the new threads to open up as well. I am a bit concerned that with a lot of those topics rediverted that we would be faced with an OSD being just a slightly modified GTKY. But that's why it would be an experiment. If it fails, we merge all the bonus threads or keep them, but just remove the subforum.

Thats exactly how it looks because I made a subforum in another forum solely for that picture.
