The only things that aren't directly religion or politics are usually controversial news stories, but even then the responses often have some kind of religions or political influence. I might be okay with a name like "News, Religion, and Politics," since it would cover the content more accurately, but I like the current name just fine.

Personally, I think it should remain Religion & Politics. I guess you could change the description, but it wouldn't really mean much to me. And I really don't know why Abu is fighting so hard to get "serious sports talks" in there. Isn't that what the FOOTBALL!!! thread is for?

And, please, if you do change the name, DON'T change it to Debates. I do not like the ring of it.

Exactly. As I said before, it hasn't caused any problems yet. if it's not broken, why fix it?

I don't really see a need to change it. The idea is that the threads in there are the more controversial ones. The description is quite funny.

Of course, I'm an old fart that was here before that board even opened. I suppose keeping it as it is holds some sort of nostalgic value for me.

I thought that the board was here with the creation of the Forum? Wow, the more you know...

Anyway, after thinking about it a few more seconds, there really is no need to change its name or description around. As mentioned, people know that the section is meant for serious discussion.

No. It started out as a single thread: Joey was interested to know about people's religious backgrounds (or lack thereof). From there, it grew into several religious and/or political discussions, and the rest - as they say - is history.

I thought it had to do more with IJ turning tons of threads into debates.

Someone already said this, but i've always wanted R&P to be called "serious discussion" just because there should be a place where people can just talk about more serious topics, including R&P, instead of it getting mixed in with Off subject discussion. So I find "serious discussion" the most fitting name for that forum.

Yeah, for the most part it's agreed upon that this isn't gonna change. If you can show an instance where the name caused a large enough problem to bother with a name change, post it here. Until then, this discussion is pretty much over.
