I have updated the first post with the following:

DS_Kid wrote:
EDIT (May 4th, 2008):
I'm happy to announce the completion of a five-hour project between Mike and I. It is called the Forum Insanity Level, and like the ratings you all have given the Forum on a fun-scale in this thread , this new feature also requires votes by you all.

The Forum Insanity Level is the general user opinion on how active/drama-filled the Forum is at this point in time. So if you think there's a lot of drama or user activity going on at this very moment (not last week or something), then vote higher on the Insanity Scale.

Just click on the Insanity Level you think the Forum is at to vote. You may revote as much as you'd like:

    KEY:
  • Insane - Users are posting a lot more than usual, and there's noticeable drama about. Users may be being jerks towards one-another, and there are definitely some short fuses.
  • Hectic - There's a noticeable level of drama going on.
  • Edgy - Users are posting a lot more than usual, which may be a good or bad thing. Drama may not be present, and users may be actually having a bit of fun, but there's an above average amount of posting going on.
  • Calm - Users are acting normal. Drama is probably not present, and there's no real noticeable increase in the posting levels of the Forum.

I know that this won't be 100% accurate, but it'll provide an alternative way for users to convey whether or not they think the Forum is filled with activity or drama at this point in time.

THE CURRENT INSANITY LEVEL OF THE FORUM IS:
Image

So yeah, go ahead and start voting on this thing, as well. I doubt that it'll be noticed too much, but it still provides another way for users to show their opinions of the Forum.

This will eventually be included in the Disktionary, as well.

Hehehe, that's cute. *votes 'calm'* ... I'd vote 'edgy', but things have calmed down since last week - in my opinion.

Ramrod, contact Jello or someone who's good with PHPBB3 and/or Greasemonkey and see if they can get this implemented as a feature or something.

I'm upset that the several hours worth of time I spent trying to get the effects of the images to look right didn't really amount to anything. My gloss effect is lame. D:

There's always Mike, since he just made this thing about two hours ago.

Then what are you waiting for? Get him to get to work! This is the thing of the future!

That scale is too much based on drama. What about just plain old sucking?

Because anyone can do something about the forum sucking, but not many can do anything about drama and animosity other than saying "guise, cmon, calm down, its not warth it"

Because it's not the suckiness scale?

Calm by the way.

Hey Disk, You're missing 2 scales. You need Blackwatch Plaid above insane and the cover of Rush's seminal album Moving Pictures over that.

Why not? It obviously keeps the terrorists away.

What does "users posting more often" have anything to do with this? To me, it just seems like people are active.

I'd say that users posting a lot more than usual can contribute to the Forum's overall insanity (it's an Insanity Scale, remember). Times when the posting levels could factor into it include things like Forum changes by administrators, new moderators, or something simply epic.

However, if you'd all like it to be based on simply drama, I'll see what I can do. It'd make a bit more sense to stick with one category, I guess.

Well when there's drama or general insanity people tend to post a lot but I don't think it should matter as much in the lower levels. My opinion is probably not the majority though so whatever.
Bumped up to 8.

LAWL

So, I just did an experiment and voted for 'calm' 5 times in a row... and it worked. Um... That's kinda swaying the vote, isn't it?

It should be made to where you can only vote once per hour or so.

Ah ha! I do believe you're right. One vote towards calm mades it 'edgy' and one vote towards insane makes it 'hectic'. Alrighty, then.

According to Mike, the current system only allows you to count one vote at a time from your IP address, so somebody else may have voted during the time you were voting. Of course, he may have made a mistake in the programming, so I'll see if he can check it out later on.

I doubt it - Nobody else lives where I am on this forum. At least, I think so... It seems to be workly properly now, Disk. No problems. It just doesn't say "You already voted" so I was assuming that it was counting each vote.

I meant that somebody else who is online may have voted while you were putting in your votes. There are currently 18 other users online to possibly change the vote. :P

OH! Yes, that's true!
Don't mind me, I'm half-blonde. It's my mom's fault for marrying a gringo. ;)

Thats because anyone can help curve the suckiness, but no one can get rid of Drama fully 100%.

Plus, if the forum sucks right now, then post and make it better.

I meant the general feeling of it being bad. Nothing you could really quantify. Some people might think it sucks (and give it a lower rating) for a reason completely different than "being insane".

And no I will not post more because I shouldn't have to
