EDIT: This discussion is continued from the HRWF Awards thread.

Does anybody else think we need more mods? Or at least a new Admin.

I've been telling the Admins that for six months now.

Which is part of the reason I would have thought it hilarious if someone besides an Admin won that category.

Aren't all the admins picked because they did wiki stuff? IRC, that's why Dot Com became an admin, he got to be one of the big sysops. But none of the admins go here that often, sans Stu.

Mods is a different story. Three of the older mods aren't here(porple and jesty both left, MHG has real life stuff), and we have 3 of them here(4 if you count IJ who had a stept-down for personal reasons, I think). I think new mods would be a good addition to the forums.

bah, like my opinion counts

I agree with what you said. But then again, my opinion doesn't count much either.

It's Dot Com does help us with spam bots. In fact, that's pretty much the reason he is an Admin over here (and for a while, we were being bombarded with them, so it is a necessary task). But he doesn't really post here enough to understand the dynamics of the Forum, and so he's not really helpful in handling conflict issues.

But seriously, guys. All joking aside for a minute, I think that's why this thread (HRWF Awards) is currently in the mess it is in. One group thinks there shouldn't be a Best Admin category, and the other group thinks it should be awarded to someone besides one of our current Admins. Don't you see? It's the same issue: we both see the need for ACTIVE administration of the forum. And perhaps it's time the Admins did as well.

On the contrary, Noid, Spork. I think in this issue, all opinions do matter. But maybe it's not something to be discussed in the Awards thread.

EDIT: Moved To A Place Where Hopefully Someone Will See It.

I just want to correct my old thing, we have another mod - BazookaJoe. But he doesn't come here all that often and only tends to one forum, while Dids, Rammy, and Sree cover pretty much the whole forum.

and I understand why Dot Com was made an admin. He did great work on preventing the NSMC thing.

I choose option B, but if I had my way, I WOULD CHOOSE EVERY OPTION IN THIS POLL. EVEN THE LAST TWO THAT DON'T ACTUALLY MAKE SENSE!

Wait– Where'd the poll go? Stop being so sneaky, Dids. Moving the thread without warning and now this?

I say we need at least two new mods and one new admin. As to who those would be, I don't know, but the decision's up to the existing mods and admins, innit?

The Admins make the actual choice, but they do listen to us Mods as to who we think would be good.

A new, active admin would be nice, just so there's some visible face for the administrators. But besides the addition of new mods, the admin side of things doesn't seem to be all that neglected. Our technical problems are more server-related than anything most admins can handle. But for the other problems, more mods would definitely help.

TURNIP

I'm not sure how shorthanded the admins are with their technical difficulties, so I just voted for mods.

Technical difficulties isn't the only reason we need more admins. Somebody needs to be on here regularly to lay down the banhammer and keep the idiots in check.

We really do need more admins. Since I joined, I don't remember once seeing one logged in.

As for mods, I'm unsure about how they feel they're handleing their work-load, but it seems like they're doing their job fine; I don't think more Mods are needed.

Seriously, mods/admins should be picked from among those that actually, ya know, spend time on the forum. While this is the HRWiki Forum, it's a completely distinct entity from the HRWiki. Heck, I'm not even registered on the Wiki. It's been months since I've even been to HomestarRunner.com. But I still come to this forum because I like a lot of the people here. The WikiForum is separate, and should be administrated/moderated as such.

EDIT: In retrospect, it's mostly just the admins that I have issue with. The mods, MHG excluded, are on here a lot and are frequent posters. Go Mods!

We need someone who's on here all the time to be an admin. Someone who could not be influenced by some charismatic dude. We need someone who is smart, can make decisions based on what the people want or by what is needed, and who won't just be going around abusing his power. We need someone who won't threaten a ban just because we're creating lulz (Rule 6, serious Inc. yadda yadda). Someone who makes Lulz! Someone who can view the situation from all sides.

The only question is...Who?

I'm not sure. Since Inverse seems to have good skills with being a sort of middleman between HRWF and HRWFWF, I think he'd make a good mod addition, but I don't think him automatically surpassing the mods would be very good for Sree, Dids, and Rammy.

Maybe bring THOSE three up to adminship and select three replacements?

I can tell you how I feel. I'm starting to get burned out. Most of the time, I feel like I'm banging my head against the wall.

I think new moderators are definitely needed for two reasons:
(1) I think all three of us current active ones could use a break, or at the very least some relief.
(2) some new mods might help to bridge some of the conflict issues that have been plaguing our forum for some time.

I also think at least one new Admin is necessary. I feel that most of you guys would like to see Admins who post regularly and actually be more involved in the forum dynamics. Also, I think it would help the bring quicker resolutions to problems. One issue that Ram, Rad, and I all feel is that, when you get right down to it, when there is conflict, people don't listen to us. We've said this plenty of times before. On the other hand, people do tend to listen to someone with real power (I know of at least one recent incident that was fairly swiftly resolved only because an Admin did get involved).

EDIT: I posted this in answer to Noid's question from earlier, but a lot of this has already been covered since then. MUST... TYPE... FASTER!!

That's why an admin seems needed, because in your own words, people don't listen to the mods, right?

Currently, mods aren't too big of an issue. Another would be nice, but it's not completely necessary. There really should be an active admin or two, though.

I agree that Inverse would make a good mod– heck, he'd make an excellent mod– but he's basically going to leave the forum until August, so he might not be an option. Then again, who knows how long it will take for new mods/admins to be decided on?

I was thinking one of you guys could be promoted to Admin, but since you put it that way, I think we need some fresh meat brought into the group.

Well, Dids said he's been in talks with the admins for nearly six months about this.

And Cola - if we get "new meat", who? Like I said, somebody just being randomly made into an admin on that contributes to the forum without being a mod would probably be unfair to the current ones.

What we need is someone who's experienced on the Forum, someone who knows how it works, yet someone who isn't a Dick to everyone.

Well, like I said above, the (probably) most experienced people are our current active-mod trio, but it depends if anybody can take their spots/if they actually want to be admins.

plus there's always IJ, but does he really want to be an admin again?

I haven't seen IJ on in weeks. I think he'd be out of the running.
