But their lulz didn't hurt anyone. They were actually fun. Sorry if I sound bitter; I'm tired from a long day of job hunting and I don't mean to take it out on anyone here. |

No, in the end the admins choose who will be given what powers, and volunteering oneself automatically puts you out of the running. |

Can I volunteer myself then?

First off, I'm stinking estatic that this discussion's finally going down in the public, and with a very admirable amount of maturity. Grand jorb, everybody! I voted for both. I think that The Mod Trio definitely need a break or relief of some sort, if not a graduation to adminship to some degree. Also, we definitely need some new faces in the modmin team, not for shaking-things-up purposes, but to help delegate and decentralize things a bit and make the load easier for the rest of them. I really liked the old system of five or so mods and five or so admins each running a few boards apiece, not three and one absentee (sorry mhg) running the entire show. While that's been necessary in the recent past, what with all of the irl troubles that have cost us LJ, DG, MHG, Porple, and Jones at various times, not to mention the admins and some of their irregularities. A strong presence in the past, I feel, helped keep things in check. As for whomever should be promoted, I don't know too too many exact names who seem to fit the mold (IT for sure ) but whoever would be added to the admin team, there definitely is a bit of a criteria I think if there's to be any actual effect here. Basically, it's someone who can be firm and mature enough to know when and how to weild the banstick without alienating everyone. Take Stu, for instance. [trying despirately hard not to sound like a suck-up] In the past, when Stu was babyless and had more time here, if'n there ever was a problem surfacing, Stu would pop in, state his wishes for peace, and that was that. People listened, people acted. Stu had and has authority, and it was known. This is what we need some more of around here. [trying despirately hard not to sound like a suck-up]
Mods, too. New mods need to be able to find common ground between factions and help stitch them together. Good communication, good relations, and great intentions. I don't want to see this place go under as much as the next guy, and I hope that we can keep that from happening, and to do that we need more help. [/two cents] |

At my parents for the weekend, leechin' there intrawebs... IantheGecko wrote: I'd vote Inverse if he weren't about to take his hiatus. True I'll be gone for the week, but actually after this topic came up, I decided not to cancel the internet. Instead, I disconnected the cable modem and stuck it in a box underneath several other boxes in a place hard to take those boxes out of (I actually need another person there to grab my leg and pull as I lift a box). Basically, it'll be so much hassle that I'll only want to take it out if I get some kind of [s]bat-[/s]tiger-signal from the internet. But I'll gladly serve if called, and I'll be able to. Ian wrote: I just want to say that, while "lulz" are nice (just not as the expense of others), I also want this place to have some air of seriousness to it wihout being Serious Inc.
I agree. I like the new, looser feel, but some days you just aren't feeling it and you need to be taken seriously. Some days it's really hard to get that here anymore. I've found myself going other places for that lately. Actually, how about this: a "Support & Counseling" Thread (or maybe an even broader name) in GTKY where you can go when you need to be taken seriously. That wouldn't be the only possibility, but it might help people who feel like they can't get that ol' forum fambly feel anymore. There might be other ways to strike a compromise, but it'll take a little bit to figure that out. We're only just now adjusting to this new wacky phase, and who knows how the full rule-enforcement will shift things with that. Also, if Capt. Ido could stick around during the school year, I think he'd be an awesome mod. |

There is sort of a support thread already: the "How Ya Feelin'?" thread. True, people use it to post good feelings as well, but still. We could probably break off a separate topic if people feel there needs to be one. |

Speaking of this, why is MHG still a mod? She hasn't posted since October. |

I thought about How Ya Feelin? at first, but then, yeah, because of the positive feelings, it wouldn't be good to restrict that thread to serious-only. A separate thing would be better. |

Wait a sec. By "a separate thing" do you mean like an individual thread, or something more on the scale of "Off Topic Discussions/Forum Games/etc"? Just clearing that up, because my brain suffers from acute ADD spasms from time to time, causing sporadic and selective "dumb". |

I think he meant a separate thread, like the Prayer Chain. |

Okay, everything is set, all we have to do is wait for the Admins to deliberate with each other, and then an answer will come. |

So the admins have actually looked and agree'd with this thread? Cool! I don't think the whole thing is completely necessary at the moment, but with the slow flooding of new members we've been getting, it's probably a good idea. |

Honestly, I've thought I'd be a good mod. I know, I know, the whole "OMG DON'T SUGGEST YOURSELF!!!" thing. But seriously. I think I've got the qualities needed for modship. I've been here over two years, so I've got the experience. I've been a HRWFWF moderator and admin, so I know how to work the tools. I've made long posts about ways to improve the forum. And I'm pretty sure you've all agreed with me on more than one issue. I know how to resolve differences through discussion. Many people know this: Didymus, Ramrod, StrongRad, Capt. Ido, Alexander, all these people I've had some type of conflict with and have brought it to peaceful resolution. I hate to bring this out into the open too, but Ramrod has also discussed this possibility with me. I've also got condolences from several other users. I know I can be a dirty rat sometimes, but I seriously think moderation would help me settle down. Because I've got a strong say in HRWFWF matters, I think I'd be able to bridge the gaps between users well, like the whole thing in How Ya Feelin' a while ago. If I become a moderator I'm almost positive it'd get rid of any bias I might have. I'd have more responsibility on my shoulders and it'd help me. I've been here for over two years, and I've been one of the most frequent users in history. I've settled conflicts peacefully before and I've personally got backings from more than one user. People often agree with my viewpoint and seem to like when I suggest things. You guys know I always have the well-being of this forum as a huge policy of mine. I think that if I become a new moderator that I'd be able to help this forum grow and develop until it returns to the old glory we once had and far beyond it. Thank you for your time. |

Heh, the fanstuff had one of these just last week. In with the new, all across the server! ...Sorry. Incidently there were no votes this time round. sci-fi greg wrote: Speaking of this, why is MHG still a mod? She hasn't posted since October.
You don't lose your mod powers just by going inactive. You have to formally step down, I think. |

*raises hand* hey, me too! Although I don't think we solved it by talking, I argued and left in a huff. Then came back, got GOOD [s]GRAPHICS[/s] GRAMMAR, and yay. gb2w |

Wait, Do we have any of those at the moment? Pie is the only one that comes to mind. Oh yeah, and Pizza Trophy, whenever she happens to be around

Some of the people who have campaigned themselves (Ex and Ace of the top of my head) I've thought could make good mods, but remember, if you campaign for yourself, you drastically lower your chances of modship. [s]So shut up and get in the hole[/s] |
