Hello, I'm new here, but I'm already making suggestions!

I'm noticing as I'm looking over the forums that there is a large amount of posts that contain several nested quotes.

example (apologies if real forum user's names are used):

It's not that hard to edit quotes, and it's also not that hard to go back and read what people said beforehand. Quotes should mostly be used if someone else posts something, and you want to reply specifically to their post, but there are unrelated posts from other people in between.

Also, I've noticed a lot of quoted images...I'm sure that's not very good for bandwidth. Everyone can see the image in the original post, so it really isn't neccessary to include it in a response post.

I mentioned both of these things because I didn't see anything in the rules about them, and they were a few of the rules we enforced at the forums I moderated on a few years back...so I thought I'd suggest them here.

There are rules about quote pyramids. I think they don't want more than 3 quote per pyramid. If someone has a huge pyramid going, the mods usually edit them with a picture of a pyramid.

And I'm no server expert, but I'm pretty sure a) a picture would only use up the forum's bandwidth if it were hosted here (and none but a few avatars are) and b) since the picture would be saved in a user's cache, posting it twice or quoting it would not use any more bandwidth than if it were posted once. So, I don't think it's necessary to address that in the rules.

But either way, thanks for posting your concerns. It's very helpful for us - if there's a problem we haven't addressed, it's really beneficial when someone points it out. Saves us a lot of trouble.
