Alright, I'm all about being mean, but this thing is just kind of stupid.

As I understand it, the Foes list enables you to block people, and from then on you can't see their posts.

How pointless is this? It's going to mess with the flow and nobody's going to know what's going on. If anything, it should block PM's, but I don't even like that idea.

It's stupid. I really think it should be gone.

It is pointless. But why not keep it up for the few people that DO use it and let everybody else just go on?

I think it's kindof a "leave well enough alone" thing.

The solution to that problem is quite simple: don't do anything to warrant being put on anyone's Foe List. That's pretty much what the Mods and Admins expect from users, anyway.

If someone puts someone else on their Foes list then the conversation gets mangled. Without being able to see conversation as it should be the poster who placed someone on his/her Foes list could make redundant posts or posts that are totally unrelated to a topic. So then the quality of the unedited discussion is ruined because someone blocked someone else's posts. Right?

I haven't used it (yet) but don't forum ignore features just stick up a notice saying "There is an ignored post here. Show?" In which case, I can't imagine it causing many thread flow problems.

I'm going to test it.

The name I block will be the person who posts in this thread next, and it will only last for a few moments just to check everything out.

Hurry.

Yeah, this.

And if the conversation is a little out of sync sometimes, it's not the end of the world. I doubt it will be used too frequently anyways.

Back when Clan rHrN was around, I remember quite a few requests for a feature like this...

In my personal opinion, I don't really care. I suppose the only time someone should be made a foe is if that person is literally ruining the forum for you.

What if we get another Necromancer? This feature could limit the amount of, er, bad things one saw from such a poster. I say keep it.

Wait. What are you trying to say? I'm confused. Really, I am.

Necromancer was an ultimate troll who posted goatse everywhere and would have been easily blocked by a Foes list.

Goatse is bad the first time you see it, but you get used to it once you see enough shops of it. I can't take it seriously anymore.

Anyway, toastpaint.

Actually, it is. YOU may be used to it, but you assume an awful lot if you think that means everyone else is. It doesn't matter if you spend hours on end just staring at it, it doesn't mean that any of the rest of us care to see it.

So? That's Ace's response. It still doesn't make your universal claim true.

Moving along:

I don't see how the foes list solves anything, really. Whether or not someone blocks your post, it's still a post. Some old troll could be on everyone's list, then he could come back and post a bunch of crap that hogs the forum's bandwidth and ruins the server, but we wouldn't see any of its effects at all. I agree with Didy; just don't try to do anything that gets you on someone's Foes list. Or the modmins' Problem Children board, for that matter.

And if you're freaking out about topic flow on a message board, you really need to get your priorities in line. ;)

I've always assumed that we modmins inherently aren't allowed to put people on the foe's list, since we need to be able to see everyones' psots.

By the way, this is in no way an advocation of goatse. You still can't post it here.

I'm still right, though, COLA. The world doesn't revolve around you, the last time I checked.

No. All I did was point out a problem with your claim. You were not in a position to speak for the entire forum. You were the one who resorted to oldmeme.

SO ANYWAY...as COLA has shown, it is still possible for posts to be viewed after they have been filtered by the foe's list, meaning that a conversation can still carry on without as much assumed confusion erupting.

I doubt if I'll ever use the foe's list, though. I just like viewing every post and PM as up-front as possible, even if Necromancer 2.0 appears on the Forum. Goatse and such wouldn't really offend me unless my parents were nearby, in which case, I'd be screwed.
