Ignoring it won't have an effect. People want their opinions to be heard. Letting someone know that you disagree is a good way to end it, or at least clean things up.

I'm perfectly fine with that! Its when people do like Rusty, and just post something like he just posted. Back it up, why do you not agree? I get it that you don't, but why? It just makes you look like a prick in my opinion. Offensive, retarded, and just someone that doesn't really care about the topic at hand.

Now that that's out of the way, I think the mods are doing a perfectly good job of keeping spam under control.

Well that's really I'm concerned with.
But when people call facepalms, etc., spam, it's just... silly.

Post subject:  Re: Spam

From the looks of this thread, the only people who seem to be having this problem are the ones on the receiving end of the supposed "spam".

Okay, seriously. I don't make every response I have to someone, and this includes real life, an essay. Sometimes, a short statement will suffice. If the person it's directed at can't find the not-so-hidden meaning behind what I said, which is usually very simple, then I'll either explain it or give up. Not that hard.

Now, a couple things, Mookoo.

MooKoo wrote:
I bet you were laughing your buttocks off in your comfy chair when you posted that.

For real dude, you need to grow up just a tad bit. It would be for the benefit of the entire forums.

1. No, I wasn't. Why would I laugh about something like that? It's not funny. It's a simple statement, saying that I disagree. For whatever reason, that's not enough.

2. My chair is most comfortable.

3. ...In what way do I need to "grow up"? There wasn't anything immature about my statement either. And, you're not the spokesman for the 20-30 frequent users here.

Because having a one sentence response that is directly related to the post that I quoted is offensive, retarded, and shows disregard for the topic at hand. Right.

If you want me to back it up, ask. Other than your request, I have no reason to give anything else than a straight up yes or no.

I hate doing things like this. It's annoying, it makes me look like someone who stirs up trouble, and I have to have an in-depth conversation with someone that I don't want to have an in-depth conversation with.

You must back this up. :P

But seriously, I'll have to agree with Rusty. Not everything has to be backed up in a situation, and it most definitely shouldn't make it appear as if the user is trying to pull a joke or be a jerk or something when they do it. Of course, it'd be nice if people did back up their opinions, but they may be leaving that for another time or something.

Comments like "kill yourself", "jump off a bridge", and "go to Disk's house to suffer, sweetie", should be used a little less frequently, which seems to be the case over the last few weeks. They are pretty rude, and they should only really be used sarcastically, but it's something that's bound to happen out of irritation sometimes.

I'm not sure how much further this conversation can go. Several of the modmins have already stated that it's more of a situational matter when they determine what is and isn't spam. Remember that threads can have tiny topics branch from them, and these topics can sometimes be pretty neat or interesting to read. Not all spam is bad! :D

This is all I'm trying to say. Rusty, you're not the only one, it just seems you have been doing it a lot as of late. There is really no reason for the short one liner that is just there to be a joke.

I have never said "Kill yourself" or any of those other phrases.

Do you ever stop and think that some people take life, or at least the internet, a little too seriously? Is this a topic worthy of a public thread, or more of a PM situation? I mean, honestly...

But seriously, Lahi, if that wasn't sarcasm, then it was pretty silly. Teefee was simply stating something that's brutally obvious with this place; that's why we had PWNDay years ago.

I'm pretty positive he was saying it as 'an example'. i.e. He was trying to get my(or other peoples) bollocks up and therefore prove his point that spam is more worthy of a public debate.

DON'T FALL FOR HIS TRICKS! ;)

Lahi, this is your last warning. I am stating that you have overreacted to harmless comments that are not in any way spam. So, with that in mind, can it. The modmins are open to suggestions, but we are not up for baited discussions. If you have a problem with it, send us a pm, with links to whatever your beef is about. Otherwise, this topic is dropped.

Chill, Ido.

I went over this with BTG, and he said I could have this thread. I haven't been trying to create drama, I have a valid question that has yet to be conclusively answered.

So you can stop with the threats.

Besides, JTHomeslice's reaction to my use of "stop talking now" proves that I'm not the only forumer who believes such posts are inappropriate and spammy.

1. Just because BTG made a decision, doesn't mean it can't be reversed, you know.

2. It was conclusively answered. Spam serves at the Pleasure of the Mods. i.e. They will call it when they see it. PM them about specific problems.

3. Which you purposely baited. It doesn't mean he agrees with your stance.

JoeyDay disagrees. He did not write Rule 3 as "Spam serves at the Pleasure of the Mods."

Um, chill? Stop with the threats? Lahi, I hate to break it to you, but I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing here, moderating discussion. I'm here to call it as I see it, and I see you jump at the throats of people who initially meant you no harm, and now have to deal with pointless gripes on unfounded claims.

I do care about pointless posts and how little they contribute to this discussion, and I'm aware of your conversation with BTG, however since that talk, this thread has begun its flaming spiral typical of certain users interacting with each other. So now I'm turning this around to pretty much everyone, cut the crap, keep it civil. Final warning. I'm nipping this in the bud.

"This is your last warning" is a classic threat. I don't know what you see it as.

You insist on ignoring my main point. Please address the question of "gtfo" as it relates to the board before closing all discussion.

What does it mean in regards to JT? You act like I killed a kitten or something. I merely showed that other forum members are equally offended by "gtfo" posts as I am.

And really, who's the drama queen, again?
