Favicon and profile links (2 ideas)

I have two small ideas, that I don't think would be very hard to do.

First, I think this site should have an icon thingy. You know the one. The picture next to the url & book mark.
Second, I think clicking someones user name should take you to there user-page, the thing that says there interests and stuff.

I don't have any idea how this forum software works, or how hard it would be, but if it's not that difficult, it would be nice to have these things. If it is too hard, feel free to lock/delete this.

The Forum used to have a Favicon, though around the time we upgraded to phpBB3, it mysteriously vanished. I forgot what it even was at this point.

Well, keep in mind that you can simply click the "Profile" link at the bottom of the user's post to get to their profile page. It's a bit more noticeable than a username with a hotlink in a thread, anyhow.

Speaking of Profiles for a second, can I ask why, a few months ago, we became unable to see them if we weren't logged in? I used to like just checking up on my "previous posts" to see if anyone has responded with something worthwhile before I go through signing in.

Couldn't you just set your profile to automatically log you in each time you enter the Forum?

Unless someone is blatantly giving out personal info on their profile, it shouldn't be a problem.

"oh noz pedafiles" is a bad excuse when the best prevention of that situation is just being smart and not giving out real life information.

Wouldn't matter. I clear my cache once I'm done browsing for the day. Just a matter of habit, really.

I shouldn't have said that though because it was so long ago that I don't remember if it was official or not. Or maybe it's just some phpBB3 gimmick.

No, it definitely first happened in phpBB2. I remember it just happening out of the blue with no real explanation. I'm just wondering.

Seriously, I saw no mention of that in the admin forum. Glitch perhaps? Maybe a higher up messing with things?

As for the icon thingy, I'll talk to Dot Com bout that. It used to be a W, for Wiki I believe...

Yeah, the favicon was lost with the upgrade to phpBB3. Strangely enough, it wasn't until relatively recently that we noticed it was missing.

We've recently redesigned the wiki's favicon (

) to match the wiki logo, and our intention is for all the sister sites to have similar but not identical favicons, so that you can tell at a glance which site you're on (knowledge base, fanstuff, forum, chat, etc.).

The one we the Admins have planned for the forum will look a lot like this:

(we're still making some tweaks to it). Look for it in the next couple of weeks or so.

I don't like the background on that one. There's not enough difference between the background and Homestar's shirt.

It really is difficult to be satisfied with a 16x16 image. One tiny slip-up in details, and boom, you feel like it sticks out like a sore thumb.

I'd say that if the Wiki favicon has its background blending in with Homestar's hat, then the Forum favicon can keep its current proposed design and have its background (or a slightly darker version of it) blend in with Homestar's shirt.

You know what? I like this idea.

And if we're not going to be Coach Z I think we could at least have a green background. I think that would look good.

I can make a quick mock up of this Favicon idea if you all give me a few minutes.

EDIT: Guys this doesn't look too good, but I have returned with the results. The left ones are unsharpened, whereas the right ones are sharpened:

Each row has a slightly different background brightness, as well.

To see how they'd look as a favicon, either open the image in a new tab or just right click and select "View Image".
