We are now at the inexplicable crossroads in which we now decide something that could very well determine the quality of this forum once again.

As you know, Random Thoughts was locked earlier this week as a sort of "Social Experiment" or sorts. For the first day or so of the lock, people were in a panic and a fuss. After we were all encouraged to make threads and increase user content, people started to enjoy life without RT.

But now, getting ever so closer to the point in which we are to either unlock or keep it locked, I feel we, the users, should have a say as to whether we want it back, or to keep it the way it is.

Now, before you vote in the poll, lets take a look at some of the points of both sides of the argument.

For The lock
  • More Content
  • More threads
  • Greater Thread Diversity
  • IRC Revival
  • Larger friendship between each member of the community
  • The stress of reading ten whole pages a day just to catch up is gone
  • A Fair Forgery of '05

For The Unlock
  • Page 1000
  • No troubles of IRC commands and outsiders
  • Basically a Free-For-All
  • Random Images to increase funny
  • Not having to switch from board to board and thread to thread for content
  • General ease of use and understanding

Consider each one of these points before voting because once the decision is made, there is no turning back.

I say unlock but give it a more literal meaning. There are just little things that don't fit anywhere else.

For example, if I wanted to say that Iowa and Illinois together form a heart, where would I say that?

^Exactly. We can't have a bunch of little topic of what just popped in our head. It would clog the proverbial toilet.

I like having it locked.
So I want to keep it that way.

First off, Why would The Noid ever say that?

Second, He could make a thread about Patterns one sees in the sky or inanimate objects or something.

Frankly, I just don't care. It might as well be unlocked.

Well I actually did say that a few days ago and there was something I had today that could have gone in RT but a simple thread called "Observations/Patterns" would pretty much do that, leaving RT to be...well, without anything, pretty much.

In My opinion, Average user friendliness has gone up, as well as the forums overall Enjoyability since the locking of RT. The only thing that seems to be on my mind about it is reaching the 1000 page mark.

If we do keep it locked, we must never delete it. It is history and must be preserved.

EDIT: Maybe we could get to page 1000, then re-lock it.

Thats what I was thinking, but then it wouldn't be about posting random stuff, it would be a bunch of "PAGE 1000 GETS!!"

I'm in favour of keeping RT locked for now. However, I think the option of unlocking it should be kept open.

Yeah, most of us assumed that, I just made this to see if everyone was okay with it...

Oh, *pssssst* Your fly is open...

I would say to keep Random Thoughts locked. It really has made a difference on the Forum; instead of people having to read twenty new pages of Random Thoughts, they could instead read ten new threads. While we won't be able to convey our thoughts on every subject, we'll be able to for 95% of them.

If/when we decide to unlock it, it'll be unlocked.
Requests/demands/bribes won't make it happen any faster.
