I'm getting bored of Random Thoughts. It's a cliquish, boring landfill. Everything there could exist, in one form or another, in another thread. "Weird theories you have", "things that happened today", and a myriad of countless other threads, and others you can create, are better places to put things. The forum got so much better when we locked RT, and I'd like it to not revert. We reached 1000 pages, what else does that thread have to live for? New users don't post in RT because it's the impenetrable fortress where users high-five each other and make inside jokes all day long. I say we lock this thread forever, and there seems to be a lot of support for this. Who else is for it? |

New users do post in there. New users started posting in there, making it suck, then resulting in the lock. I don't care. IRC is a good alternative, but then again, there are some things that are worthy of a post but not a topic. Would you rather have fifty 3 post topics or fifty pages? |

It could work out, and it could once again get rid of silly crap and allow users to focus on other threads. Besides, we do need to use our IRC channel more--it really does collect dust from time to time. |

I'm opposed to locking RT. However, if it does get locked permanently, we need to be more tolerant of silliness everywhere else. |

Quote: Give me an example and I'll tell you where you can post it. Where would I post "Iowa and Illionois make a heart when together" or "(celebrity) is creepy, (stuff explaining why celebrity is creepy)"? Quote: I'm opposed to locking RT. However, if it does get locked permanently, we need to be more tolerant of silliness everywhere else. Yeah. You can't expect all of those post ideas to magically disappear. They'll leak. |

I, too, do not want it locked. We'll go through a few makeshift RT's and toastpaint every other thread every other hour. |

I am against locking RT. I think it is a thread with endless potential for greatness. |

And you can just make a thread called "creepy celebrities" for the other one |

Lock RT. It's a spam thread. It sucks up discussion from other threads. Example: how many times have we seen Guitar discussion in that thread instead of in the appropriate one. Beyond the Grave wrote: I am against locking RT. I think it is a thread with endless potential for greatness. How? The Noid wrote: Where would I post "Iowa and Illionois make a heart when together" You keep using this as your go-to example and I keep wondering: why in the world would anyone want/need to know this? |

We shouldn't lock RT, srsly. It's a signature of the forum, and a good way to meet everyone. |

I would just like to re-state something I said while it was locked for that one week: If we were to lock random thoughts, we would need to keep it somewhere, someplace noticeable, so we can keep our forum history. Totally deleting Random Thoughts would be like burning all of the history books. Make a sticky of it, call it 'Random Thoughts-Forum History'. Just never, ever, delete it. |

Or...y'know, if the majority decides on it, it could just be locked, and then people could use the search feature of the Forum to find it when they want to view it. It's not the most amazing thread ever. |

I think RT needs a set of rules all its own, supplementing the forum rules. I found this on another forum, but we may be able to adapt it for use here. They call their RT thread "Random Banter" Quote: The Rules.
You Read Them! In order to try and keep these threads from becoming unmanageable, some rules have been created, and they accent the forum rules. Please read those first. 1. Spam. For the purposes of RB one word posts should be spam everywhere. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* should also be considered spam. Quality of content trumps speed of response. 2. Ditch the "competition for control of the universe" eh. It has ceased to be funny, and often branches out into little mock battles that fall into the spam definition laid out above. We've got a PbP section for fights, and even the Town has an arena, I believe. We don't have this problem here 3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well. 4. Stop advertising other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild. 5. Please stop with single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random forum members." 6. Do not poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today." 7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation. 8. No asking "What's the topic" or the ilk. This is *not* a conversation where you could've missed the begining, it's a forum where the current topic is nicely recorded for you. So read up a bit first. 9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well. 10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud. 11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a back and forth discussion with just one person, look in their contact information for IM details Anyone found breaking the rules will be sent to stand in the corner and receive a very stern talking to! This thread is for random discussion, not random chit chat. There is an IRC chat thingy set up for that sort of thing. Not only will you not annoy the people here, you will also help increase the popularity of the IRC chat. It's win/win/win! |

My point is, people don't have to know things for it to be here. Why would we need to know smells forumers like, or how tall a forumer is? The answer is, we don't, but for some reason we ask anyways. and, well, maybe there's a shape enthusiast out there or something |

Yes, let's lock it. Then I vote we either totally delete it completely, or sticky it forever as a monument to human folly. No letting it get buried. |
