I find this to be a Suggestions topic more than anything, but feel free to move it if you think differently.

On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest), what would you give the Forum as a rating? Feel free to explain your score for the Forum, and also be sure to list tiny suggestions that you think would make the Forum a better place to be in. For instance, maybe you like the Forum, but you think it'd be better with a few phpBB modifications or something.

At this point in time, I would give the Forum a 7/10. Even though the upgrade was months ago, the Forum still feels "new" and the users are, for the most part, pretty good. Of course, I'd like it better if users who have recently joined would post more instead of disappearing shortly after their registration, and I'd also like it if we had a bit more diversity with our users (though that'd obviously be pretty hard to achieve). It'd also be neat if some of these older users wouldn't randomly disappear, but oh well.

I also miss the old days of creativity with the users: forum sketches, sign pics, forumfics, forum comics, a freakin' Forum RPG that was never finished, but was still awesome for the hour of entertainment it provided. That's not to say that we're still creative, but I'd like more odd threads to be thrown out there that involve some more advanced user interaction.

Finally, I still like Chekt's old idea of a modification that allows you to give a "thumbs up" or a "thumbs down" (or something similar to that) for posts. Not everybody has the time to agree or disagree with peoples' opinions in a post, so simply clicking an icon to +/- a post would be pretty neat.

You can also change your answer to the poll if your opinion starts to change.

EDIT (May 4th, 2008):
I'm happy to announce the completion of a five-hour project between Mike and I. It is called the Forum Insanity Level, and like the ratings you all have given the Forum on a fun-scale in this thread , this new feature also requires votes by you all.

The Forum Insanity Level is the general user opinion on how active/drama-filled the Forum is at this point in time. So if you think there's a lot of drama or user activity going on at this very moment (not last week or something), then vote higher on the Insanity Scale.

Just click on the Insanity Level you think the Forum is at to vote. You may revote as much as you'd like:

    KEY:
  • Insane - Users are posting a lot more than usual, and there's noticeable drama about. Users may be being jerks towards one-another, and there are definitely some short fuses.
  • Hectic - There's a noticeable level of drama going on.
  • Edgy - Users are posting a lot more than usual, which may be a good or bad thing. Drama may not be present, and users may be actually having a bit of fun, but there's an above average amount of posting going on.
  • Calm - Users are acting normal. Drama is probably not present, and there's no real noticeable increase in the posting levels of the Forum.

I know that this won't be 100% accurate, but it'll provide an alternative way for users to convey whether or not they think the Forum is filled with activity or drama at this point in time.

THE CURRENT INSANITY LEVEL OF THE FORUM IS:

I voted 8/10. Probably 'cause I wasn't here for the awesomeness of the ol-den days.

I voted 6. I haven't been posting much, but I have been snooping. Ramrod's pretty much been running the show in terms of making me laugh, and there hasn't really been that much interesting content.

I like this forum. It's pretty active, and it's even good for a laugh every now and then. And if there's a problem between one user and another, both users are usually pretty subtle about it most of the time.

In other words: 8/10. I just wish I could've been here in its earlier days.

I give it an 8/10. I just wish I was around for the golden days instead of snooping around in those posts.

... Am I one of the cool ones? D:

5/10.

I just... REALLY don't like it these days. (Almost) all the people who used to be cool either left or stopped being cool.

But I'm too attached to ever leave.

Its decent. I kinda' completely agree with you disk, but not completely. The main thing is that this place has a lost a little bit of its creative spark, and fewer cool members. All forums have their ups and downs though, so I'm expecting for things to change for the good here soon.

8/10. The forums lost some of it's luster, but i'm expecting a comeback to come very soon.
I miss those good old days.

You weren't here during the Summer of '05! You didn't come until the Summer of '07!

Yeah, mid-2005 rocked. I hope it can get back to that. The forum's pretty good right now, but we're still not quite there.

Same, it seems the forum is moving slowly now, not lag, just lack of posts. :-|

It isn't very fun anymore. I don't know if it has changed, or if I've just outgrown it, but It just seems boring, everyone is a jerk, people that aren't jerks are stupid, and we just had an exodus of cool people.
And I told Disk this, but I've been contemplating leaving for a while now.

I give it a 5 outta 10.

6/10, I guess. Still decent. It's just boring here. I dunno, maybe I'd stop going here if I found someplace better, but anywhere I'd go I'd be the "new guy".

Guess I just missed the awesome days by a few months when I joined. Then again, I was a little 13-year-old then, which is probably why I split.

Tradegamesnow had me hooked.

Know what would make this forum better?

A GREAT IRC REVIVAL!!!

Too bad that'll never happen.

Ever.

I remember when the IRC chat parties used to be announced along the top of the Wiki pages. It could work out later down the line, though I'm not sure if users would care about it as much as they used to. And then there's Gabbly...

I'm sure ramrod wouldn't mind driving around the US and picking us up in an RV just to spend a week at the beach.

I'm really having trouble responding to this. I mean, the forum is dying, that is clear. But I'll always feel some sort of attachment to this place. The other forums I go on, I read it for the posts, I don't see the poster. But I know you guys. I see the post from the poster, not some just some words without a face. I feel like a loser for saying this, but you guys are my friends. Now that that's said, most of the people I felt this way about have either left or changed. Now it's too fake, and Serious Inc. is too real. Which is why I miss '06. I definitely can't rate this place on a scale of 1 to 10, it's so much more complicated that.

tl;dr What Myrrh said.

Quoted For Trurh

I can't say much about Serious Inc. because I don't go there, but this is really how I feel. It is obvious the place is dying, at least in the way it used to be. Maybe its just going through a major shift. Posting activity isn't as high as it used to be. Well, isn't as spread out. It's all in the same 'ole stuff. That being from the huge drop in creativity. Its really just a big combination of different things, but like I said earlier, I think there is a bright future in store and that it won't be long before we start to see it. Topics like this will perhaps open up user's eyes a bit.

Both the forum and the fanstuff have drifted away from their intended purposes. That happens in most internet communities eventually, but I still don't like it. If nothing else, I wish more people still watched Homestar Runner. This is the biggest Homestar Runner forum on the internet. I kind of want to start over.

On the non-fandom related front, this forum is, I think, less entertaining than it used to be, and it's full of jerks. Maybe it was always full of jerks, I haven't backread enough to be sure of that. But it bothers me to see how rude people can be to new people. No wonder the newbies keep disappearing.

Also, stacking mugs and sleeping in the car has fried my brain. Feel free to disregard this post if it doesn't make sense or is stupid.

5/10. I mean, like, there's a fair share of cool people, but this place just keeps failing up over and over again.

problems: Fundie Christians, n00bs

And Shwoo, I still watch Homestar Runner, it brightens up my day every monday, I'm just kind of at the point where I'm tired of discussing it but I still enjoy some people here so I stay.

Yeah, this is pretty much what I was gonna say.

Also: summer '05 sucked major for me. Summer 06 was where it was at.
