Has anybody used a phpBB forum with a modification that you particularly liked having? I've installed mods on previous forums, and I kindof like having some of them, such as: file attachments, calendar (with birthdays and other events), profile control panel (more profile options). You can surf through the different phpBB mods at the following site: http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/catdb.php?cat=51 If you see anything you like, let me know and I'll decide if I should install it. |

"No Flood Control on Edit " That really annoys me when I notice a mistake in my post, and go back to fix it, only to discover when I hit submit it tells me I have to wait before I can post it. "Per-User Avatar/Sig Disable " I know there are some people on the forum who hate the signatures, think they clog things up and make it harder to read. This would solve that problem. |

I like the "Favorite Topic" Mod. That would help me. EDIT: And the Spell Checker. (SpellingCow Spell Checker) |

Topic Calendar and Spelling Cow would be great.. Something I would like to see, although it wasn't on the mods page and, thus, probably not available is an "online time" mod that shows the average amount of time a user is online per session and the total time they've been online in the current session. |

That would help me. EDIT: And the Spell Checker. (SpellingCow Spell Checker) I have been looking into spelling cow. I installed it on a test forum of mine, but it looks like it sends your message back to their servers to do the checking. By doing so, you get all of their popups (and you need to rely on their servers being up). I could be wrong, but if that is the case I don't see it being installed anytime soon. If I am wrong about this, let me know (an example forum would be great) |

For those of you wish sharp eyes, you'll notice that a few new emoticons have popped up recently. Tom made the brilliant new Strong Bad , Strong Sad , and Marzipan icons. I supplied Trogdor and Eh! Steve . They may do some more shufflying around yet, and there may be a couple more coming. Stay tuned!

Now wait a minute. I was the first one to supply an Eh Steve icon. It was smaller, and didn't look as good, though. And there's also a Bubs icon.

After thinking about it this morning, and using a spell checker in a letter I wrote, I decided that a spell checker, while useful, could get annoying. We use a lot of words and names here on the forum that the spell checker most likely won't recognize. I don't know if we'll be able to add our words and names to the spell checker's list. This probably needs more looking in to, but is probably a good idea to add to the forum. I think Stu said he was using spelling cow on a board. He would know more about it than I. |

I haven't actually used it. I just installed it on a test forum of mine (for testing these kinds of things out) Personally, I don't care much for it. (It links you to their site, which has whatever ads they decide to put up). As for me (you can see how lovely my spelling is) when I am in doubt I use m-w.com or webster.com |

i think the custom title mod would be cool like people could have something like "Grumble Cake inc. Product manager" or something and the forum clock and spelling cow |

I think the forum look should stay exactly how it is, with the exception of a Stinkoman and Poopsmith smiley being added. |

I like Custom Title MOD, Forum Clock (flash) and Open Inbox in a new window. It would be cool if there was a country flag under the user's username in a post. |

For those posters in the 300's and beyond, there's two different "watch forum" MODs that allow people to subscribe to entire forums instead of just topics. |

This one really only benefits the mods, but it is a good way to prune the memberlist. It tells you who has responded to their email activation and who hasn't. At least this way we know it's fair when you get rid of people. It's also good that they can recieve a warning email if they are still interested in joining. link: http://www.phpbbhacks.com/download/483 |

this doesn't count as a double post, does it? it's 2 completely different ideas. Stu wrote: fahooglewitz1077 wrote: I like the "Favorite Topic" Mod. That would help me. EDIT: And the Spell Checker. It runs right on your own server and uses a dictionary file for the words it uses. link: http://www.phpbbhacks.com/download/3815 |

Yeah, I told the mods about that one in another topic. They didn't like it too much... |

I'm just very confused. Why do we need spellcheck when you could just simply look over your post before you actually hit the "submit" button? You can even press a nifty thing called "Preview" that shows you your post! |

I don't know about you, but I can't spell every word in the English language. What I'll do now if I'm unsure of a spelling or 2 is search my post into Google. I'm constantly seeing misspellings in the forum, even in the names of some topics ("Word deffinition game" comes to mind )

Well... Given the last mod install attempt, I doubt we will be adding anything (unless we, as mods, feel that it is usefull or necessary). Things got a little horked up. As there is a very easy solution to this problem (there are many many many online dictionaries... simply typing the word into google will offen suffice). I don't mean to shoot you down, and I don't think starting this back up was too bad (as this is a completely different type of spell checker). I really just don't think we will be doing anything in the near future regarding a spell checker. sorry.

I have a quick and easy one! Since I get a lot of PMs, I'd like to see the text of the PM in the email notification. Evidently that may be a one-file MOD (it was installed on my PhpBB along with the forum notification MOD) that could be done easily. I can look into it. EDIT: a two file MOD, found here. |

This flash mod is pretty cool. I got it from the main phpbb site. I wouldn't use it for anything dynamic like Homestar toons, but it's cool for interactive sigs and just so that you can imbed another type of media. |

That is actually pretty cool, since I have a file for 1 forum elsewhere which is a 1MB GIF or a 100K flash file. This would be so cool there. |

I think Flash could be exploitable in very not-cool ways, when you think about it. Plus, when you think about it, do we really need signatures with sound effects and such? |

Yeah, it's just one of those things. Flash is getting to be a very popular media. Most forum software today comes with flash input. |

Oh, point taken! It would mean the moderators would have to police a little more than they already do. The worst I ever saw was a flash advertisement which when you moused over the ad, it took you to the advertisers' site. It's bad enough that they have the rediculous games that take you to their site, but an innocent mouseover taking you away from where you WANT to be was pretty obnoxious. |

Dates for Humans. Chances are most users won't change the php date format in their profile, even if they would prefer a different format. This mod has a drop-down arrow if they ever wanted to change it, plus it prevents screwing up the date format text box. The real reason I would suggest this one is because this board is mostly kids, and the average anybody doesn't understand the PHP date function. |
