I actually happened to think of this yesterday while browsing the wiki on my phone. We could set up an IRC server on the HRWiki website, instead of using freenode. I have nothing against freenode, mind you, just that I have one set up for personal use on my computer, which runs UnrealIRCd. I was thinking I could setup the IRC server config with help from a admin, or the founder of the HRWiki, and send him the software to put on the website. I'd like to see if the people of HRWiki would like this. |

Personally, I don't quite think it's worth using our own bandwidth and resources to run our own IRC server when we can get one for free at Freenode. There might be some advantages, but when we only use 2 or 3 rooms which aren't usually terribly active, it's not worth it. It's an interesting idea, though, I may try it on my own site someday... |

I don't think that's necessary. While the admins could reap some benefits from running an IRCd and services locally (like being able to link services' with the knowledge base, for instance— we could link our knowledge base accounts to our nicks!), the fact of the matter is, the site has been (or was) in a coma for over a year, the wiki lost activity, and frankly #hrwiki was virtually dead before that. For me, #hrwiki, #hrwiki-forum (it's semi-official), and #HRWiki-RC aren't worth that much to be running on a separate server window on mIRC. It would be funny to brag that I'd be on 5 networks, though... Sorry if it sounds like I'm snapping, I don't mean it that way. I'm just strong with this stance. EDIT: Until we get a more decently-sized crowd in our channels, that is. |

I can't think of any benefits that would outweigh the hassle and expense of maintaining the network, especially when freenode is well established and I have no problem with them. |
