what about using invision power board? it's very very very very very highly customizable and can take about anything you let it take. i use it every day and i love it. http://www.kansasteens.nextdesigns.net (My IPB Site) http://www.invisionboard.com (IPB Place) btw, i know it's not free, but i have an older copy of 1.3 which is free.[/url] |

There's no way that we'll switch forum software now. It could easily be done, but the mods are content using this board. Besides, I also prefer phpBB.

phpBB IS actually easier to customize than Invision Power Board. The engine is also much more powerful. Invision is more user-friendly than phpBB, though. |

Oh noo. I suggested this a long time ago. But here are the advantages compared to the two: In IPB the user controls are easier since they're not CRAMMED up. You also get a PM address book too. You see both the avatar AND signature in profiles and PMs. More later. |

i don't think any of those reasons are enough to make the admins decide to change over to invision power board. sigs and avatars in PMs? big deal |

Nah. It ain't gonna happen, at least not any time soon. I know that, personally, I really like phpBB, and I'm pretty sure the rest of the Admins back me up when I say that we don't feel like putting the work into changing something that's already great as it is. |

You do know that IPB would cost us $70 per year to use, or $185 for a "perpetual license", don't you? phpBB is not a perfect product -- I have a lot of qualms with it, actually, which range from ideological to nitpicky -- but we have no compeling reason to switch to a costly, closed-source product with a couple cute features of dubious utility. If ever we were to switch forum software, it would more likely be to something like PunBB or bbPress, not IPB, but like Seethroo said, we have no need and no desire to go through the nightmare of switching forum software. Remember what happened when we switched to MediaWiki (i.e. a far better product than we were using before), No_loafing? As I recall, it went something like this: Vocal minority wrote: Whine, whine, whine, whine, whine.
