I was wondering how difficult it would be to highlight the PM link at the top of the Forum page when there are new messages. I don't know, maybe make the text red or something. Maybe I'm just still too much of a Newbie, but I never think to check up there and have had PMs sit for a couple of days without my noticing.

Good Idea. I agree that they should do that.

Why isn't it bold faced by default?

actually, in another forum I use, the "You have x private messages" blinks. Don't know if that's something the mods can easily do here or not. The other forumseems to be running the same program (phpBB 2.0.11)

There will be no blinking on this forum, ever.

I don't know if this is something that's easy to do or not. Tom knows about this sort of thing better than I.

But anyway, why don't you just turn on "Notify on new Private Message" (which will send you an e-mail when you get a PM) or "Pop up window on new Private Message" (don't forget to allow popups from forum.hrwiki.org in your popup blocker) in your Profile? Seems to me you couldn't miss that.

Good idea, Interruptor. Sorry for not thinking of that myself.

This shouldn't be that difficult of a fix. Obviously the, page is already checking whether or not you have private messages or not. So the only change should be to modify the CSS style of the link based on the return value of the function that checks to see if there are new private messages.

I suppose that would mean altering both the CSS file and the main php file (which no one likes to do,) but at least these changes should both be very minor, and have very little impact anything else in the code.

Agreed. Blinking text gives me the jibblies.

Indeed it is quite possible, but I think simply enabling either or both of the the built in features that Jones mentioned would suffice.
