What Annoys me is that you can't talk about the same subject twice. I can't start any posts because they have already been posted in the past. There are lots of new members and I'm sure that they would like to talk about past topics, but there are only two ways to do it: go back to a thread that is 2 years old and post it there (who's going to read that?) or start a new thread. (that will get locked) ((like this one, I bet because I bet someone has said this before ))

Maybe we should prune old topics. Or we could be less-strict about already been posted topics that are very old.

umm... I was looking at past posts, and they weren't that great. I can't find anyone worth recycling... What would be a good one to recycle?

if you post in a "two year old topic", it gets bumped, and everyone can see your post.

yeah, but who would want to read all the posts before it?

It's been stated that necromancy(resurrecting threads) is preferred to two threads. Nonetheless, the natural tendency of threads is to start getting off-topic, or continuing deeper into an aspect of the topic, and at that, topics with more than about 50 replies can end up at a different subject from the original topic. It's frustrating to someone who posts in that topic only to find it buried in posts referring to the off-subject discussion right before it. I like to think of it as a fresh start, and people are free to bring back stuff mentioned in the other topic. Who cares if it's been said before, not like it's gonna kill ya.(or all your dogs)
I feel that we ought to be a little lenient on two topics on the same subject. When posting a new topic on a previously posted subject, give it some time to get some replies. It might head in a different direction from the old topic altogether despite the same root cause. We also shouldn't fret about posting a topic that's the same as one on page 3 or 4, sinec most people active on the forum probably won't remember it. Some topics are hard to search for, no matter how good your keywords are, due to differences in terms (KOT vs. King of Town, invisAble, etc.). Seems unjust to make people search for 30 minutes just to avoid getting "APB'ed!" "BALEETED!" in their topic.

And who would want to retype their post because you were too lazy too read an old topic? No personal offence, but it takes about 5 minutes to read through each page of a topic.

Yeah, I geuss your right, but I like the point that EverTimmy made.

Prune means: To remove what is superfluous or undesirable. Or, get all those crappy threads out of the way and find those few golden ones worth redoing.

What's prune mean?

It's like a raisin but they use plums instead of grapes.

(snip, cultivate, tend, cut back the growth of, get rid of unwanted things)

What he's talking about is a feature in the Administration Panel where topics are deleted automagically after a certain amount of days of being static.
